Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
May 8th is Iris Day. Today is a day that celebrates these beautiful and attractive late spring bloomers. With or without a beard, Iris are very popular among homeowners and gardeners. With a little luck, you have Iris blooming in your flower beds today.
Iris Day celebrates the state flower of Tennessee, the symbol of Brussels, and the flower for 25th wedding anniversary. Irises come in rainbow of colors such as blue, purple, white and yellow, pink and orange, brown and red, and even black. The Iris takes it's name from the Greek word for rainbow. Celebrate Iris Day by enjoying these great, easy to grow bloomers. If you don't have any in your yard, get some and plant them today.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.
Vincent van Gogh
One of the paintings I did when taking a decorative art class was of Irises . I was so thrilled to be able to portray this lovely plant that I was encouraged to continue on. Iris, the beautiful purple and violet flower, is the favorite subject painted many times by two of the great impression artists, Vincent Vah Gogh and Claude Monet. Not that I’m anywhere near being a famous artist, but I do love the beauty they give.
The Irises in our yard are about to bloom but aren’t quite there yet. We’ve had too many chilly days this Spring, but as we are warming up here, it won’t be long now. The pictures today are from other years.
The weatherman says we’ll be approaching 80 degrees for the first time since about 7 months ago. We had rain again yesterday and probably will again tomorrow, but today the sun promises to peep through and that means a day outdoors for me !
I hope you all have a wonderful day and can get outside and enjoy it too!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.
Vincent van Gogh
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for over a year and have now reached 1600 gifts. On my way to 2000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1649. for Iris plants just about to bloom in my yard
1650. for a sunny day to enjoy
1651. for flower boxes full of blooms on the porch
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
I must have flowers, always, and always.
Claude Monet
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

That was a pretty picture you painted of the iris, Ma! I didn't realize they came in so many different colors. I see some when we are out walking. I bet you will enjoy that warm temperature when it gets here and will do some soaking up of it, enjoying the time outside!
