Life is a Special Occasion!

March 5th begins the sacred season of Lent with the celebration of Ash Wednesday, Ash Wednesday derives its name from the ancient practice of putting ashes on one's head as a sign of sorrow and repentance of sin. We celebrate Lent, as we remember the 40 days Jesus fasted in the wilderness. The real goal of Lent is life, love, and union with God and neighbor in the Passion and Resurrection of Christ, we are free to join Jesus in the desert and find, through him, with him and in him, the gift of life for others and for ourselves.
Remember you are dust and will return to dust

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.

We all go through periods in our lives that bring change. Lent is a time to change our hearts. Today I’m sharing a little reflection on the butterfly, but for the 40 days of Lent I’ll be putting my meditations on my blog What’s New at My House. The link for that is at the end of my post today.
Metamorphosis. It’s the process by which a tiny tadpole becomes a leaping frog, a creeping caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly.
The symbol that has captured my imagination this year is the butterfly. They are insects that undergo a complete metamorphosis, go through four life stages; embryo, larva, pupa and adult. Butterflies begin, like us, as embryos and end up like us too. The season of Lent is a sort of pupa stage for us. A melting down of our defenses, fear, anger, grief.
If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies.

Somehow, the miracle of the butterfly never loses its fascination for us. Perhaps because the butterfly is a living parable of the promise of resurrection. Butterflies are a symbol of life and hope.
This winter feels like one of the longest I’ve ever experienced. The purpose of Lent is to bring us to a place of admitting once again that we are nothing on our own. Our bodies and our souls are much too weak to bring about our own uplifting. It is only through focusing on the lifting up of the body of one Man that we can find strength or joy in our utter frailty, fragility and weakness.
May we have courage to risk being who we are at this stage in our lives
Lent is a journey and a passing through, a traveling onwards to the true destination…a metamorphosis!
Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time.

COUNTING MY GIFTS
Love is like a butterfly: It goes where it pleases and it pleases wherever it goes.
Author Unknown
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine.

I'm sure you will enjoy when you see the first butterfly emerge in your part of the country, Ma! I do like the analogy of the butterfly and the journey of Lent.
