ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
OCTOBER 25TH, 2011
It's TUESDAY!
SOUREST DAY
Life given you lemons? Today’s the day to shout about it. Reserve the right to be grumpy, irratable and sour about the world and everything in it
Today is a day for the grumps of the world. The curmudgeons, the cranky pants, the sourpusses. Who says you have to be cheery all the time? On Sourest Day we see the balance in life and nature. Without the sour there'd be no sweet.
When life gives you lemons, please, just don't squirt them in other people's eyes.

NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Tomatoes and oregano make it Italian; wine and tarragon make it French. Sour cream makes it Russian; lemon and cinnamon make it Greek. Soy sauce makes it Chinese; garlic makes it good.

World Pasta Day is today.
It should come as no surprise to discover that this special day promotes the consumption of pasta around the world. Here is a chicken and pasta supper with Italian flavors that is so easy, because you cook the pasta right in the skillet. It's perfect for weeknights.
ITALIAN CHICKEN SKILLET
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cubed
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped, or to taste
- 1/2 cup red cooking wine
- 1 (28 ounce) can Italian-style diced tomatoes
- 8 ounces small seashell pasta
- 5 ounces fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet with a lid over medium heat, and cook and stir the chicken and garlic until the chicken is no longer pink in the center, 5 to 8 minutes. Pour the wine and diced tomatoes with their juice into the skillet, and bring to a boil over high heat while scraping any browned bits of food off of the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon.
Stir in the shell pasta, and return to a boil. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the shells have cooked through, but are still firm to the bite, about 10 minutes. Spread the spinach over the top of the pasta, cover, and simmer until the spinach leaves are cooked, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the skillet, and simmer until the cheese has melted and the pasta is bubbling, about 5 minutes.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
When life gives you lemons and for some reason you can’t make lemonade, find a recipe for a lemon cake. The secret is to turn bitter into sweet and darkness into light.
Lemons are tart, most people don’t eat them just as they are, for many people they by themselves are undesirable. That is like some of the trails and questions we face, they by themselves are undesirable. But what happens to lemons if you add some water and some sweetener with a tall glass of ice, you have a nice drink of lemonade. Something that is desirable on a hot summer day.
The lemon of an occurrence might be the sourest thing to happen lately but can you find its sweeter side? Although sour, real lemons are a beautiful golden yellow and so aromatic that industrial manufacturers world-wide add the scent to household cleaning products. Can you find this golden, scented lining to your lemon moments?
LEMONADE
L - Laugh - it's the best medicine
E - Embrace others and surround yourself with those who want you to thrive
M - Move forward with a fixed focus to make a tangible difference one day at a time
O - Open your mind and your heart
N - Notice all the things in your life to be thankful for
A - Adjust your attitude and expectations
D - Decide to challenge your circumstances and do unto others as you would have done unto you
E - Evaluate your actions instead of blaming others and remaining in victim mode.

Even though life is sometimes sour, I am determined to make lemonade out of it. Thanks for a good post, MA.
Pam, when I am feeling sour about something....I set a timer and give myself an hour or whatever to whine and moan and then I let it go....through prayer. Works for me.
Happy Tuesday, friend.

I'll second Doris's comment Ma.I have had plenty sour lemons to contend with in my life, and I am still adding the sugar.xx Take Care God Bless Kath xxx
Great post as always. I always think when I am grumpy or depressed that you don't have to look very far to find someone a whole lot worse off! I have been watching Dancing with the Stars and the young man that was so terribly burned and scarred has been such an inspiration to me. He sure hasn't let the lemons in life get him down.
