ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
OCTOBER 26TH, 2011
It's WEDNESDAY!
WORKAHOLIC STOP AND SMELL SOMETHING DAY
Stop! And smell the roses, because today is Workaholic Stop and Smell Something Day. If you're usually on the go and barely have time to breathe, today's the day to take a break.
Life moves so quickly, we often don’t take time for ourselves, our family, friends and the things that are important to us.Then the day arrives when we look into the mirror and wonder where all the time went and what have we done with it.
God's most precious gift to us is the present moment. It is up to us to make the most of it.
Learn to pause ... or nothing worthwhile will catch up to you

NATIONAL MINCEMEAT DAY
In North America, the holiday season is mincemeat season. It's a pie filling consisting of finely minced dried fruits, spices, a spirit like brandy--and sometimes, but not always, a little meat or meat fat. It can be consumed as a savory dinner course or as a dessert.
Easy Mincemeat Squares
1 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup flour
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup mincemeat
1/3 cup chopped nuts
Combine oats, flour, margarine, sugar, lemon peel, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and baking soda in a large bowl and blend well.
Put 1/2 the mixture in a well-greased 8" square baking pan and pat down. Spread mincemeat evenly over dough. Crumble the rest of dough on top of mincemeat. Sprinkle the nuts on top and press dough down carefully. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Let cool. Cut into 2" pieces.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon--instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.
Dale Carnegie
Outside my window today it's supposed to be raining again. One way I've decided to make these rainy days brighter is to spend the day with my sisters. Today we hope to have another one of those days.
Now that the 3 of us are retired we are planning to get together more often. Since there is still work to be done outside on sunny days, we decided rainy days are the best to do something together.
Yesterday was a sunny day but I didn't do much work at all. Instead I went to the beach. Lake Erie isn't all that far away and I'd not been there for quite a while, so taking advantage of the weather off I went. One of the beach areas has undergone a major overhaul in the past several years and I wanted to see what they'd done. The park there used to be taken care of by the local city services but now has become part of our county metro park system.
On the BEACH is my favorite place to be!
COUNTING THE DAYS

Oh darlin'...who knew, a day just for me!!! I fear both Hubs and I would qualify in the 'workaholic' category. We tend to burn the candle at both ends then break it up in itty~bitty pieces and light those ends too! Heeehehehe!!!
Gotta run...I smell my burgers smokin' outside.......
God bless and have a wonderful evenin' sweeite!!! :o)
BTW: 'Never brought myself to taste mincemeat...Just sayin'....
Now that I'm retired every day is 'stop and smell something' day. Your beach pictures are lovely.
