ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
OCTOBER 2ND, 2011
It's SUNDAY!
NAME YOUR CAR DAY
Name Your Car Day is today. Does your car have a name? Lots of people name their cars. People with big boats, name their boat, and we think nothing of it. So, why not name your car or truck!? Every car has character and personality. We spend a lot of time in our cars, and caring for them. So, its only fitting that each car gets its own name.
Selecting a name should be made with care and consideration. Give your car a name that properly reflects its character. What you name you car should be a proper reflection of its character and performance, and your desires for your car. In general, guys names are for guys' cars, and girl names are for the cars that you ladies drive. Aside from that, selection of a name is wide open. But, be careful....cars have feelings, too.
My car's name is the Little Red Hen...it is red and it's little. One of my son's named his car Bert...I don't know about the rest. Have some fun and give your car a name today!
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
October 2nd thru the 8th is National Chili Week
This first week of October celebrates the nationwide American creation: chili. Derived from chile con carne (the Spanish phrase indicating chili with meat), American chili is, at its most basic, a melange of ground or diced beef spiced with ground chili powder or fresh chiles. Although it's considered sacrilege to add beans to the dish in Texas, where the dish originated and is often dubbed a bowl of red, chili is an extremely versatile one-plate meal, and can be infinitely adjusted with a variety of spices, meats, beans and other additions.
FRITO PIE RECIPE
2 slices bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 medium onion, chopped
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon salt, more or less to taste
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/3 cup tomato paste
1 1/2 cup water
1 cup canned pinto beans, rinsed and drained
5 cups Fritos corn chips
1/2 pound Cheddar or Monterey jack, shredded
Optional: chopped onion and diced fresh jalapenos for garnish
Cook bacon in heavy skillet until fat is rendered. Add onion and garlic and cook until onion is softened.
Add ground chuck and cook over medium high heat, stirring and breaking up lumps, until browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Pour off excess fat and add salt, chili powder, cumin, and tomato paste.
Slowly add water and simmer 10 min, adding more water if necessary. Add beans until heated through.
Divide corn chips among individual wide shallow bowls, top with chili. Sprinkle cheese on top.
Garnish with onion and jalapeno if desired.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their

Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
Everything in life is somewhere else, and you get there in a car.
E.B. White
Although I don't go too many places, it is wonderful to have a car and go when I want to go.
I was very thankful to have people in my life that took me along with them when I didn't have a car for most of the summer, but now that I have a car of my own again I do love it.
What a chilly wet weekend we have had. Late Saturday afternoon, I decided I was tired of the rain and came home. Hopefully I'll get back to the camper later on in the week when the weather is warmer.
Hopefully tomorrow the clouds may finally clear out and I'll be thankful for that.
I hope your Sunday is a wonderful one!
COUNTING THE DAYS
Life’s a car ride…Sometimes it’s cruise control down smooth highways. Other times it’s potholes on rural roads.

A lovely post today. I have just named my car Blue Velvet. She's a beautiful shade of dark blue and rides as smooth as velvet..
