ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
OCTOBER 24TH, 2011
It's MONDAY!
TAKE BACK YOUR TIME DAY!
Take Back Your Time Day is not anti-work. Work can be both useful and fulfilling. The problem arises when life gets out of balance, with work concerns overriding family, community, and health
Have you ever had a particularly uneventful afternoon and thought to yourself, Well there goes three hours I'll never get back? With all of the stuff we have to get done and all the fun the world has to offer, it seems a shame to waste any time. That's why today we switch gears, quit moping about all the time we don't have, and take advantage of the time we do!
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
St Therese of Lisieux
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
BOSTON CREME PIE DAY
More a cake than a pie, this Boston creation has become a favorite dessert item in restaurants and households nationwide. With layers of sponge cake and custard topped with chocolate ganache and a sprinkle of powdered sugar, it was good enough to be named the official dessert of Massachusetts. It's National Boston Cream Pie Day.
CAKE:
1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch salt
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 teaspoon each nutmeg, allspice, cloves
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large container whipped topping
4 tablespoons powdered sugar
Filling:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For cake: Preheat oven to 325F. Cream shortening and gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
Combine dry ingredients. Add alternately with milk beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla.
Pour into a greased and floured 9 inch cake pan. Bake at 325F for 25-30 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove and cool completely.
Split in half horizontally and spread with cream filling between layers and on top. Top with whipped topping that has had powdered sugar stirred in.
To make Cream Filling: Combine sugar, corn starch and salt in heavy sauce pan. Gradually add milk, stir with a wire whisk until well blended.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil. Boil about 1 minute or until thickened. Put about 1 cup of hot mixture into egg yolks. Stir well and add to hot mixture and cook until thick. Cool slightly.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.
James Matthew Barrie
Let's face it. Many of us choose to hang on to things that at some point have hurt us, angered us, made us feel sad, or depressed us. If we choose to hang on to them, we will never move forward
Something I try to do every day is to enjoy each and every moment. When you live in the present moment you find yourself enjoying everything that is going on at this moment. Right now, it's the beginning of a new day to make the most of, moment by moment. It's the beginning of a new week to live and learn and love.
Don't let life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live up all the days of your life.
HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY MONDAY!
COUNTING THE DAYS
Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in.
Henry David Thoreau
59 DAYS UNTIL WINTER
63 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
