ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
February 21st, 2011
It's MONDAY!
President's Day
Since 1968, it is celebrated on the third Monday in February
President's Day is a day set aside to honor all of the U.S. presidents. We often think of two great presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln when we celebrate this holiday as it falls by design between their birthdays. But more and more of us, look at this day as a tribute to each and every person who has ever served in the office as President of the United States of America. It is a national holiday, although most businesses and industry do not recognize it as a paid holiday.
THINKING
Precious memories of yesterday can be precious moments today
In 1941, sculptor Gutzon Borglum completed his work on Mount Rushmore. The 60-foot-high granite heads of four US Presidents now stand like sentinels of democracy over the Black Hills of South Dakota. The imposing likenesses of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt remind visitors of our nation’s heritage and history.
Today: Think about how God has shown himself to be faithful to you and your family. Just like the sculptor of the Presidents reminds us of these great men, we too need to remember the miracles of God's provisions that neither we nor our children can afford to forget.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
February 21st is National Sticky Bun Day
They're fun to eat and fun to say! Sticky buns are a culinary cousin to cinnamon rolls. They're sticky both because of the gooey caramel and honey that they're often made with, as well as the fact that the buns are baked stuck together in a pan. Take advantage of the cold weather months to fire up your oven on National Sticky Bun Day
Easy Caramel Sticky Buns
16 caramel candies, unwrapped
2 tablespoons milk
3/4 cup pecan halves, chopped, divided
1 package 8 oz. size refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons raisins
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Microwave caramels and milk in microwavable bowl on HIGH 1-1/2 to 2 minutes or until caramels are completely melted, stirring after each minute. Pour into well-greased 8-inch round cake pan; sprinkle with 1/2 cup of the pecans.
Unroll crescent roll dough; separate into 2 rectangles. Press perforations in each rectangle together to seal.
Mix remaining 1/4 cup pecans, sugar, cinnamon and raisins; sprinkle over dough rectangles. Roll up each rectangle, jelly-roll fashion, beginning at one of the short ends. Cut each roll crosswise into slices. Place, cut sides down, in prepared pan. (Sprinkle with any remaining sugar mixture.)
Bake 17 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately invert pan onto serving plate; remove pan. Spread any remaining caramel over buns. Cool slightly.
PRAYERS
Lord Jesus, thank you for all the people who tell their stories and help us learn how to live. When we want an easy answer and simple rules to follow, grant us patience and help us to remember to start simply by loving you and loving those around us. Fill our lives full of your love and hope
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU!

If you can't make it better, you can laugh at it

The humor and wisdom of Erma Bombeck is something we can all take to heart.
Today is a holiday for DS#5 and his wife so I don't have our little Mr. Wonderful today. Instead I'll be trying to make things a little better around here and you know I'll be laughing a lot too!
Have a great Monday everyone!
