THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share.

It's SUNDAY!

Today is Hoodie-Hoo Day

On this winter day, people go out at noon, wave their hands over their heads and chant Hoodie-Hoo.

It is a day to chase away winter and bring in spring. After all, everyone in the northern hemisphere are sick and tired of winter at this point and a little crazy being cooped up inside all winter and not seeing the sun.

NEW IN THE KITCHEN

It's Cherry Pie Day. Cherry pie is America's second most popular pie, behind only apple pie in popularity. However, in the month of February, it's Number 1.

As a young boy, George Washington made the Cherry tree popular, with his famous quote I can not tell a lie, I chopped down the Cherry tree. We celebrate George Washington's Birthday and President's Day in February. Appropriately, its traditional to bake cherry pies in honor of the occasion.

Being the hot pie of the moth, it is only fitting that Cherry Pie Day falls in February. On Cherry Pie Day, celebrate today with a piece of pie.

IMPOSSIBLE CHERRY PIE

1 c. milk

2 tbsp. softened margarine

1/2 tsp. almond extract

2 eggs

1/2 c. Bisquick baking mix

1/4 c. sugar

1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling

STREUSEL

Cut 2 tablespoons firm margarine or butter into 1 cup Bisquick baking mix, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon until crumbly.

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Grease pie plate, 10 x 1 1/2 inches. Beat all ingredients except pie filling and Streusel until smooth, 15 seconds in blender on high or 1 minute with hand beater. Pour into plate. Spoon pie filling evenly over top. Top with Streusel. Bake until Streusel is brown, about 10 minutes longer. Cool refrigerate any remaining pie.

God our Father, we pray that we may grow in such a way as to be welcoming to other people, and generous in every way to those people we don’t agree with.
Lead us to appreciate others in the same way that we would like to be appreciated.
Never let us look down on others, or consider anyone to be less than ourselves.
Show us how to be open-minded and able to learn from each other so that, together, we may grow as the people
you invite us to be

AROUND HOME

After church today I'll be busy getting dinner ready for those in my family that can come today. Otherwise it should be a quiet day. A lot of people have tomorrow off for President's Day, so this is a nice long weekend to celebrate and enjoy.

On my calendar for the week ahead it looks like I'll be caring for Mr. Wonderful on Tuesday and Wednesday, then Thursday I'll be getting my taxes done and also renewing my license plate sticker for the year. Friday afternoon, I'll get together with my Dulcimer friends and Saturday is going to be our little Lucky guy's birthday party.

It looks like a very busy week ahead here at my house.
