ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
February 11th, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's FRIDAY!
Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day
This is s day to recognize that everyone spills a little milk now and then. It's a day to be optimistic, think positive, look on the bright side, and to find something good in everything that happens. As the song says: Don't Worry, be Happy!
Today is a day to recognize that life happens. And, when it does, Don't worry, or fret, or cry over it. Rather, take a positive attitude and fix it, or get past it.
We all know the concept of the question: Is the glass half full or half empty? The pessimist sees it as half empty. The optimist sees it as half full. It's all an attitude towards life.
SMILE!
THINKING
The highest form of wisdom is kindness.
The Talmud
TODAY: Think about who is the kindest person you know and how they make you feel.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
It's National Peppermint Patties Day!
A one of a kind candy flavor, peppermint patties feature a thin, firm, flat shell of bittersweet chocolate surrounding a creamy mint filling.
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract
4 cups confectioners' sugar
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 teaspoons shortening
In a large mixing bowl, combine condensed milk and peppermint extract. Beat in enough confectioners' sugar, a little at a time, to form a stiff dough that is no longer sticky. Form into 1 inch balls, then place on waxed paper and flatten with fingers to form patties. Let patties dry at room temperature two hours, turning once.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate with shortening, stirring often. Remove from heat. Dip patties, one at a time, into chocolate by laying them on the tines of a fork and lowering the fork into the liquid. Let cool on waxed paper until set.
Father, we pray that we may live cheerfully and patiently and positively both in sickness and in health. We bring before you all who are sick and all who care for them...
Bring healing of one kind or another to those we know who are ill, afraid or worried.
We think of those who suffer from constant sickness or weakness and those who never get well.
Father, be with them all, and be with us.
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
Yesterday morning it was a chilly minus 5 degrees here at my house. I was surprised that our local schools stayed open. It used to be that when it got that cold they closed.
The worst part of this cold spell should now be over. We may see a little more snow they are saying but it'll be warmer!
COUNTING THE DAYS
A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties

Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…

Hi Ma, yes, life does happen, doesn't it? We have to keep our chin up.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs, Barb
Your positive attitude shines! I like the Truman quote; it's so true! Minus 5 degrees . . . unbelievable! We think 23 is so very cold, and it's been that low often lately. We've burned lots of wood in the fireplace, which I've enjoyed. Now we'll be in the 70's again . . . that's Louisiana weather for you!
I have always been a positive thinker Ma! It makes like so much easier and pleasant. Love the peppermint patties! xxoo
