Today is National Pink Day which celebrates the color pink and explores everything it represents.  

Dating back to the 14th century, to pink, the verb, means to decorate with a  perforated or punched pattern.  It would have curious to find pink used in fabric or decor during the Middle Ages.  Occasionally it was seen in women’s fashion and religious art.  During the 13th and 14th centuries artists sometimes portrayed the Christ child dressed in pink, the color associated with the body of Christ.  

Artists primarily used pink for the flesh color of faces and hands during the Renaissance.  But during the Rococo Period. 1720-1777, the color was part of the golden age.  

Pastel colors became popular in the very fashionable courts of Europe during this time. Madame de Pompadour, 1721-1764, the mistriss of King Louis XV of France was known for wearing the color pink, often combined with light blue.  At one time she had a particular of tint of pink explicitly made for her.  

Pink Ribbons were worn by young boys in 19th century England.  The men in England wore red uniforms and since boys were considered  small men, boys wore pink.  Pink became much more bolder and brighter in the the 20th century. In 1931, the color Shocking pink was introduced.  

As one of the most common colors of flowers, pink serves to attract insects and birds that are necessary for pollination.  Pink come in numerous shades, and its meanings vary too.  

In the Pink - the phrase refers to someone who is in top form, good health and good condition.  

To see pink elephants - when someone sees pink elephants they are hallucinating due to too much drink. 

 Pink slip - when an employer gives a person a pink slip it means they are fired or dismissed from a job.  The term was first recorded in 1915.  

Pink collar worker refers to a person working in jobs regarded as women’s work.  

Pink money, refers to spending power of the LGBT community.   

Tickled pink. When one is well pleased, they are tickled pink.  

There are many ways to celebrate today, plant or give someone pink flowers.  Temporarily die your hair pink or  paint your nails pink.  Or you could simply wear pink clothing!

If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side

 

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.  I believe in kissing, kissing a lot.  I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.  I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.  I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.

I like the color pink and often wear it, but my favorite color is Red.  I prefer pastel pink to shocking pink and think of it as a Spring color.

Deeper shades of pink were made for summer.

I happen to own a pink sundress so I think that is what I’ll be wearing today. It will be perfect for the hot weather we are experiencing. 

When my daughter was a baby, I’d dress her in cute pink outfits when we’d go out and everyone still thought she was a boy. She didn’t have much hair until she was about 1 year old.  Back then blue meant a boy and the color pink stood for girls.  It seems the meaning has changed a lot over the years.

My grandson did very well at the basketball game yesterday, the whole team showed up and even a couple of extras. They all did a great job and won the game.  It’s now 2 out of 2 for them!

We went to dinner afterward and we had a blooming onion for an appetizer. I had coconut shrimp and fries to eat and couldn’t finish it all so I have leftovers for today ! I hadn’t had a blooming onion in years, and I do love it so! They had gift certificates to Outback so that is where we went.  

Today, he leaves for Band camp for a week and they’ll be taking him to get checked in and I’m just going to stay here reading my book and relaxing this afternoon.  I’ll enjoy my leftovers for dinner!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.
