Today is DNA Day which commemorates two important events in history of DNA.  Francis  Crick’s discovery of the double helix in 1953 and the completion of the Human Genome Project in April 2003.   Both of these accomplishments are equally important to the study of DNA

The official sponsor of this holiday is the  National Human Genome Research Institute which is part the NIH, National Insitutes of Health.  Every year, the Institute hosts a series of presentations , online forums, and contests to help celebrate this unique branch of science.

Celebrate today and take part in one of the many activities happening today or take a moment to learn something new about genetics and DNA.  Happy National DNA Day!

Last year DDIL #1 got my DNA tested through Ancestry, so I could trace back my relatives and see where they  came from.  I had one surprise but the rest I already knew from the stories I heard from my relatives.  My dad knew that his parents came from Hungary to settle in the U.S. My mom knew her parents were English and German.  What I didn’t know is that I also have a small bit of Irish in me.  Other people in my ancestry came from Scotland, Wales and France.

I’m a mixture but am 50% Hungarian and then the other countries fill the gap on my mothers side of the family.

It’s good to know where we came from and to learn about our ancestors. 

We’ve been in the high 80’s and cloudy, but there always seems to be a nice breeze blowing, making it feel comfortable.

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
