It is also International Women’s Day which celebrates women every where around the world. The first Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911. More than one million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland attended rallies and events to campaign for women’s rights and to end gender discrimination.
Today this holiday gives us an opportunity to recognize all the economic, political and social acheivements women have accomplished throughout history. In the 15 countries where it is an official holiday, International Women’s Day is similar to Mother’s Day. People honor their mothers their wives, friends and colleagues with flowers ad small gifts.
Celebrate today and show your support of women everywhere, or learn more about this holiday and how you can help in your community.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.
I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles.
Audrey Hepburn
Being a woman is important to me, it means I was a wife, a housekeeper , and a mother. It also meant that I could work and support my family until they grew up. Women have played an important function through out history. It’s so hard to believe that that at one time we weren’t allowed to vote. It’s a privilege and honor for me to be able to do so and thus show some respect for those that gave much to make voting possible for all women.
I like being a woman, but know that men still make more than a woman does in the same field. Things have gotten better but somethings have still stayed the same. We’ve yet to see a woman become President of the United States, although we do have one that is Vice President. Things truly have improved over the years.
My sister and her husband are taking me to lunch today and DS#5 is making dinner for me and baking a cake too. I will be celebrating all day long !
Next weekend is the family dinner at Red Lobster with everyone. I don’t think many will be able to make it. I had hoped to be together with all my children, but it’s not looking like that will happen. We’ll see when the 16th comes.
This weekend, on Saturday, I’ll be attending a confirmation service for our Lucky Guy. It is at 10 am in the morning so we’ll have to leave here by 8:00 am., and we’ll go to DS#6’ s house for a party after that so I may just be sending out my post for the 9th, the day before, or even possibly a day late. We’ll see how it goes.
Then comes Sunday morning we’ll have the first day of Daylight Savings Time. I don’t like that I lose an hours sleep, but am happy it will be daylight one hour later. I don’t like feeling like I need to go to bed at 6 o’clock when it gets dark outside.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !

A privilege and honor to be a woman in this day and age ... and a friend of yours, as well! So many blessings to celebrate, and I hope your birthday is just the beginning!
