Today is National Freedom Day which celebrates the Signing of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution by President Lincoln in 1865. The 13th amendment was proposed to abolish slavery in the U.S. It was ultimately ratified on December 18th, 1865, about 7 months after the end of the Civil War, thus formally outlawing slavery in the nation.
This holiday was established On June 30th, 1948 and made official by President Harry Truman, however the day was advocated by political activist, Richard R.Wright, who was born into slavery in Georgia and resided in Philadelphia.
To celebrate today acknowledge the Importent steps we have made to Freedom equality as a nation. Recognizing the importance of preserving and advocating for equality and justice for all citizens.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I would like to be known as a person who is cancerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people.
Rosa Parks
Equality is something I was taught as a small child when I went to church. I believe God created all of us to be equal. We may differ in looks and thoughts, but we are all the same people, beloved of God.
The Civil War was a war right within our United States. They have called it a war between the North and the South as most, but not all, slave owners lived in the Southern states.
My favorite President has always been Abraham Lincoln, I admire his steadfastness in abolishing slavery and promoting equality. He was born a poor man but still became President.
Today I’m continuing to sort through the clothing in my room. So far, I have a large laundry basket full of clothing I want to keep. This will need to be whittled down considerably. One large suitcase and one small carry on could not possibly hold all I want to keep and I have been forbidden to buy another suitcase. I’ll only have one normal closet at my daughters house in which to store all my things. I will of course have a chest and dresser too, but here I had 5 closets full of just my clothes. That was way too much for one person, but it’s very hard to decide what I really need.
We’ll see how well I do, when it comes time to leave. I need to remember that I can always buy something new when I get there, if I really need anything else.
Meanwhile it’s a work in progress just as I am also a work in progress. I have a lot to learn and to do yet. I’m still alive to see a new day and I’m very grateful for that.
I hope you all have a GREAT day! Happy Thursday !

I'm honored to live in a country that believes in freedom, equality and justice for all!
I'm not moving, but I am whittling down, too. I gave away one bag of clothes that I kept thinking I would wear one day. But for one of the sweaters that day hasn't come in five years. Take care!
Oooh, I'd love to have had 5 closets full of clothes. Unfortunately, when we moved here I had to settle for one 'normal' (1950-1960's era) size and an even smaller one in the office.
We do what we have to do, right?
We/I cleaned our closet last summer. Now it is time to glean through the chaff.
You mentioned the Civil war. How pathetic our leaders could not work out something instead of the USA killing more citizens here that in all the other wars.
Anyway we aare beat here. But enjoyed the visit...
