THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share.

The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is also Tooth Fairy Day which is a tradition that folks have followed for hundreds of years. Kids all over the world place their lost baby teeth under their pillow at night and look forward to a wonderful surprise from the Tooth Fairy.

The early Europeans buried children’s teeth so witches and evil spirits couldn’t use them for voodoo. The Vikings believed that children’s teeth had magical powers that could help them fight in battle. They would pay their children for their lost baby teeth and string them onto necklaces and other jewelry.

Over time, people began to share stories about a Tooth Mouse who scampers around town and steels children’s teeth in the middle of the night. The story of the Mouse evolved into the story of the Tooth Fairy who leaves treasures under children’s pillows in exchange for their lost teeth.

Celebrate today and remind your children or grandchildren to put their baby teeth under the pillow when they lose a tooth! Never stop believing in the tooth fairy!

When my children were little the surprise left under the pillow at night was usually money. My children got a quarter if they were lucky. Now my grandchildren get dollars. How time has changed. Inflation has hit everywhere.

I am a parent that taught my grandchildren to believe in the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus too!

Believing in the magical can make us very happy and I figure there is no reason to live unhappily. Life is too short to be anything but happy!

Now I am old and surely, but slowly, loosing my teeth and I’m wondering what I might get if I put one of my teeth under my pillow. I still believe.

I did manage to get a few errands done yesterday as the day started out sunny and it didn’t rain until later in the day. I also went to a band concert in which my grandson, Mr. Wonderful played in. It was a delightful treat and they did very well.

I made up a new menu for next week to share with you.

Monday - Slow Cooker Cabbage Roll Soup

Wednesday - Caprese Turkey Burgers

Friday - Lemon Garlic Pasta with Salmon

Weekend - Sheet Pan Balsamic Parmesan Chicken and Vegetables

It’s raining here again today but still to be in the 60’s. Tomorrow will cool off and we will be down in the 20’s and 30’s again.

The Tooth Fairy was such a happy, integral part of my childhood. I hadn't thought about that in a long time.

We're expecting more rain later in the week, but I hope it holds off until our out-of-town doctor appointments/tests tomorrow are over. I really hate being out on the interstate in wet weather, whenever everyone else seems to go faster than what I'm comfortable driving. Happy Wednesday!; February 28, 2024 at 9:28 AM
