Today is Lincoln’s Birthday which celebrates the day President Abraham Lincoln was born. He is considered one of America’s greatest heroes.  He began with humble beginnings, rising up to claim the nation’s highest office.  His tragic death in 1865 came at a time when Americans needed him the most.

His birthday is observed as a legal holiday in many U.S states including CA, CT, NY and more.  The earliest recorded observance of this great man’s birthday was in 1874, initiated by a pharmacist in Buffalo, NY.

To Honor his birth, there is an annual wreath laying ceremony at the Lincoln memorial in Washington D.C.  As part of the bicentennial celebration , the US Mint released 4 new pennies featuring stages of Lincoln’s life, his log cabin birthplace, reading as a young man while taking a break from log splitting, as a State Legislator in front of the Illinois Capital building, and finally the partially built dome of the U.S.Capitol building.

Lincoln was known as Honest Abe, and the Great Liberator, two titles he fully lived up to during his political career.  He maintained the Union during the U.S. Civil War and allowed for the emancipation of many slaves.  Celebrate his great accomplishments  by learning more about his life.  Pick up one of many books dedicated to him  or watch the 2012 epic historical drama.

You can fool some of the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time.

Lincoln is my favorite of all our Presidents.  His birthday used to be celebrated here in Ohio, but then they created Presidents Day which celebrates all of our U.S. Presidents all in one day.  They lumped them together, but to me,  Lincoln deserves his own special day.  

This week is going to be another busy one for me as I need to go through my dresser and chest of drawers to decide what to keep to take with me when I move.  I’ll try to get everything into my small carryon suitcase.  If I don’t succeed, DDIL#6 should be coming back on the weekend and will help me to get it all done.  It will be the weekend everything will get done.  I’ll need to save out a weeks clothing to wear until I move.  These clothes will not be the ones I take with me, but I do need something to wear until then.

I’ll be washing and wearing them over and over again as I won’t actually move out until the end of March.  

In the meantime, DS#6 is planning a moving sale, everything that isn’t sold will be either be thrown out in the garbage or donated.

He was supposed to go back to work last week, but he never made it.  He and most of his family came down with Covid and so he has had plenty of time to organize a sale, but he hasn’t been over to help out.  That has been left up to me and DS#6 and family.  He just can’t seem to catch a break with his health.  Please join me in praying for him and his family that good health will return soon and we can successfully make this move happen.  

My daughter should be moving into her new house in 2 weeks and I know she will have a good place set up for me to live with her family.  She has been staying with DS#2 and his family since they left for Texas and I know she is very excited to get back into her own home.

COUNTING MY GIFTS

Folks are usually about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for.  There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

12,063.for the precious gift of freedom that makes us equals

12,064. for all of my family who help me a lot.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
