Hallmark!
Today celebrates Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year. In China it is a Spring Festival and is observed as a public holiday in a number of countries and territories when a sizable Chineses population resides.
Traditionally it ran from Chinese New Years itself, the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calandar which is Lunisolar, causing the name Lunar New Year.
Regional customs and traditions apply. Chinese families gather for the annual reunion dinner. They throughly cleanse their homes in order to sweep away any ill fortune and to make way for good luck.
Windows and doors will be decorated with popular theme of good fortune or happinesss, wealth and longevity. Other customs include lighting fireworks and giving money in red paper envelopes.
Celebrate today and have a reunion dinner with your family and loved ones.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side

This is one holiday we usually don’t celebrate. But I’m hoping to have dinner with some of my family tonight. DS#6 and family are coming in to help me sort out more clothing. I’m missing two coats that I really wanted to keep so I’m hoping they know where they went to.
Saturday is usually my day to cook for the weekend and on the menu for today is:
Skillet Lemon Chicken and Potatoes with Kale.
Makes 4 servings
3 Tbsp. olive oil, divided
1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1/2 tsp ground pepper, divided
1 lb. baby Yokon Gold potatoes, halved lengthwise
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 lemon sliced and seeds removed
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. tarragon
6 cups baby Kale or spinach if desired.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a cast iron skillet over medium high heat.Sprinkle chicken with pepper. Cook, turning once until browned on both sides. Transfer to a plate.
Add remaining oil, potatoes and remaining pepper to the pan. Cook the potatoes cut side down until browned . Stir in broth, lemon, garlic and tarragon.. Return chicken to the pan.
Transfer the pan to the oven. Roast until chicken is cooked through and potatoes are tender. Stir in kale and roast until it is wilted.
This makes for a one pan dinner and is quite easy to make. I’ll be adding a few extra chicken thighs and potatoes to make enough for company.
Have a happy Lunar New Year!
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday !

Unfortunately, my son and family are out of town so it will be just Tom and me and the pups. At least I won't have to concern myself with make-up and a clean hoodie. LOL!
Happy Chinese New Year ... happy sorting!
PS - Either my computer or Blogger is acting out again, so I'm crossing my fingers this makes it to your in box!
I think I am year of the snake!
