Hallmark!
Today is Thanksgiving which is a celebration full of family gatherings, holiday meals, and giving thanks. It is a time of roasted turkeys, cranberry confections, cornbread stuffing, piping hot pumpkin pies, football games and holiday parades.
It’s a day to show your appreciation and gratitude.
The three day festival that is now hailed as the first Thanksgiving took place in the village of Plymouth in 1621. Governor William Bradford organized a feast to celebrate the Pilgrims’ first corn harvest. Those in attendance included the Ampanoag chief Massosoit. Historians know that the Mayflowers sugar supply had run low, so the meal did not feature any pies, but one record indicates that four men were sent on a fowling mission, which well may have resulted in a turkey.
Presidents Washington, Adams and Monroe proclaimed national Thanksgivings, but the custom soon fell out of favor. Then in the 1820’s, Sara Josepha Hale began a campaign to reinstate the national celebration in and in 1863 President Lincoln proclaimed a Thursday in November as the National Day of Thanksgiving. This holiday has been celebrated ever since.
Celebrate today and enjoy a feast with your family and friends and give thanks for all your blessings.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We should just be thankful for being together. I think that’s what they mean by Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown.
Marcie, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
It’s a quiet Thanksgiving Day here at my house. Right now I’m watching the Christmas/ Thanksgiving Day parade on TV. I’m going to be doing the big celebration on Saturday with my family.
Today I’ll probably enjoy a turkey sandwich for dinner and I have a pumpkin pie for dessert.
The next two days are going to be busy ones so I need this day just to relax.
Tomorrow my daughter and I will be going to lunch and meet up with some of the family. Then we are making a last visit to shop at the Candle Factory.
They have all kinds of Gift ideas and candles for the holidays. I’m hoping I can find a Christmas gift to give to my family.
This is a holiday tradition for us. It’s in memory of my husband, who died the day after Thanksgiving in 1992. It started out being a visit to a huge craft show, but they quit doing that a few years ago, then we’d go to lunch followed by a visit to the Candle Factory, which is still there. I’ll miss our visit to their town square, but I can no longer do all that walking. I’ll be taking my walker so I can walk through the Candle Factory. We do a different kind of Black Friday shopping.
On Saturday, I’ll head to our family feast at DDIL#1’s home. I’m so looking forward to seeing everyone.
Then on Sunday, I’ll be back home to rest and relax once again. This coming Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent and I’ll get out my Advent wreath and light the first candle.
Christmas will be here before we know it. I’ve lots to do before then. Tis the season to be Jolly!
I hope you all have
a GREAT Day! Happy Thursday! Happy Thanksgiving !

Happy Thanksgiving, Ma!
There were only 4 of us together this year, but we still enjoyed a sweet time. (I'm so grateful for stretchy pants, lol!) I'm glad you're getting to extend this holiday visiting favorite places and hopefully finding a treasure or two at the Candle Factory. Making memories!
WE know with your family y'all had a great day. We did also.
Just to say wishing you the best,
Sherry & jack with a great day here in NC
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving with leftovers. I did not know the history of Thanksgiving - knew it had something to do with the pilgrims. We had a different one - my grandson's future in-laws invited us over. It was wonderful.
