Today is Leaf Erikson Day, who is honored as the first European in North America .  According to the Sages of Icelanders, a historical account from the 10th and 11th centuries, he established a Norse settlement in Newfoundland, Canada around the year 1,001, more than 400 years before Christopher Columbus was born.

Leaf was only 24 years old at the time of his voyage.  After rescuing an Icelandice castaway and his crew he was named Leaf the Lucky.

In 1964, the United States Congress declared October 9th, Leaf Erikson Day in honor of this Historical Viking.  Share your knowledge of Leaf Erikson with others today and celebrate his important role in the history of North America.

I have a friend that discovered she has viking blood in her She had one of those DNA tests to find out where her ancestors came from.  Who knew Leaf Erickson discovered North America long before Columbus did.

She was born in New York it is possible her relatives came from that settlement in Newfoundland.

It’s to be a quiet day here in Ohio with temps in the 50’s. A little warmer than yesterday. It’s a good day for me to get some much needed housework done.

I wanted to let you all know that I’ll probably moving again sometime after the first of the year.  My daughter is moving and invited me to go with her and live with them.  She wants to make sure I’m ok and is my bigggest helper, so it was easy for me to decide to go with her.  We are going to the great state of Texas where hopefully, I’ll be warmer in the winter and the dry air should be good for my arthritis. They don’t have the humidity we do.  DS#2 also lives there and we will be living somewhere close to him.  So I will still have family around.  I have no new address yet, but will let you know when it gets closer to the date.  Meanwhile all my things here at home will have to go so if anyone would like anything I have, just let me know, and it will be yours.

I can’t take much besides my clothes with me. I have a big job ahead of me and will need help.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
