Hallmark!
Today is Mickey Mouse Day which celebrates the birthday of everyones favorite animated mouse. He is also one of the most famous cartoon characters and is the first to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
This lovable character’s big screen debut was in Steamboat Willie on November 18th 1928. He represents everything Disney related, and is one of the most recognized universal symbols of the 20th century.
Mickey Mouse loves a good adventure, along with his friends Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto. If your child loves Mickey Mouse, watch one if his cartoons or shows today!
Celebrate and watch Mickey Mouse! My favorite is Mickey’s Christmas!
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Mickey Mouse is, to me, a symbol of independence. He was a means to an end.
Walt Disney
Thanks to a couple of my grandchildren that I used to babysit for, I have watched a lot of Mickey Mouse Shows. I’d watch Mickey’s Clubhouse every day. I even watched the Mickey Mouse Club when I was a teenager, it was on TV after school every day. The kids on the show were known as the Mouseketeers. And they all wore the signature black cap with mouse ears. They became one of the most widely distributed items in merchandizing.
If you go to see Disney Land or Disney World, you’ll be sure to see Mickey and his friends there too.
There are several people in my family that are big Disney fans and have been there to visit the park in Florida.
Today is also my day to cook for the weekend and on the menu is:
Classic Chicken Divine
Serves 4 to 6
1 head broccoli, cut into florets
3 chicken breast fillets, diced
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 onion, finely diced
4 cups sliced mushrooms
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
3 cups milk
3 cups grated cheddar cheese
2 tsp Dijon mustard
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups whole grain breadcrumbs
Parsley leaves to garnish
Mixed salad to serve
Cook broccoli in boiling water, drain. Toss chicken in 1/2 the flour, then season generously. Put 1/2 of the butter and oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the chicken in batches until browned. Put in bowl with drained bracolli. Melt the rest of butter, fry onion , mushrooms and nutmeg until softened. blend in flour , Then whisk in milk and simmer gently. Fold in 2 cups of cheese, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and sour cream. Season to taste, add chicken and mix to combine.
Spoon into a baking dish then top with mixture of remaining cheese and breadcrumbs. Bake 25 minutes until deep golden. Garnish with parsley and serve with salad.
I’m also making a bowl of macaroni salad today to take to a birthday dinner I’m going to on Sunday. It’s for my two granddaughters that are sisters. One, our sweet sugar AB who had her birthday on the 13th. and the other is our Cutie Patootie, her younger sister whose actual birthday is the 21st. I’ll be showing pictures of both of them today and on their individual birthdays.
For the last few years they had a separate birthday dinner, but this year they are doing it together.
And on the 25th we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving together at DDIL’s #1’s house. I’ll be making mac salad for that dinner too. I’m going to use the new Barilla elbow protein pasta I got. We’ll see how everyone likes it.
We try to have our holidays on a date before or after the actual date so everyone can attend. The actual Thanksgiving is the 23rd this year, but we are celebrating on the 25th.
I hope you all have
a SUPER Saturday!

Today's pictures are old ones, they are not 10 and 11 years old. How time flies ! I'm just glad to be celebrating birthdays in person!
That was supposed to read they are now 10 and 11 years old. How time flies! the little ones are growing up right before my eyes!
I used to watch those Mouseketeers, too! The smallest pair, Karen and Cubby were my favorites; of course, all the boys loved Annette (*grin*).
How can your grands be 10 and 11 already?! Like my DIL is fond of saying, time is a thief. I hope you have a blast at the party!
Family pictures bring back so many great memories. We enjoy the pictures.
It is amazing the popularity of that cartoon Character became. From the mind and pen of Walt Disney to fame around the world....
