occasion!

Hallmark!

Today is V-J Day, which stands for Victory over Japan.  On August 14, 1945, it was announced to the world that Japan had surrendered to the Allies, signifying the end of WWII.  The historic milestone is celebrated annually on September 2nd, which commemorates the date of Japan's formal surrender aboard the U.S.S Missouri.

This holiday goes by several names, Victory over Japan Day, Victory in the Pacific Day, VJ Day or VP day.  Which ever name you call it, take a moment to remember those who fought for victory.  It is estimated from 60 to 80 million people lost their lives lives during WWII, on both sides of the war. 

To celebrate today, learn more about the holiday online. Please say a prayer for Peace in the world.

To me war is a terrible thing.  So many lives and property destroyed.  It would be much better to make peace with each other and live in harmony.  Life is too short to hate anyone or harm them. 

Today is the day I go to dinner for our Mr.Wonderful’s birthday.  I’m happy to say it will be a beautiful day out and I’ll get to celebrate in person with my grandson’s for his birthday!  

If I were at home, I’d be making dinner for the weekend, now I’ll probably be cooking tomorrow.

On the Menu is 

Herb Roast Turkey Breast

Makes 12 servings

No doubt I’ll be freezing some leftover turkey

 1  bone in turkey breast, 5 to 6 lbs.

5 tsp. lemon juice

1 Tbsp. Olive Oil

1 to 2 tsp pepper

1 tsp, dried rosemary, crushed 

1 tsp. dried thyme

1 tsp garlic salt 

1 onion, cut into wedges

1 celery rib, cut into 2 inch pieces 

1/2 cup white wine or chicken broth

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  With fingers loosen the skin from both sides of turkey breast.  Combine lemon juice and oil; and brush under the skin.  Combine pepper, rosemary, thyme and garlic salt; rub over turkey

Bake uncovered until a thermometer reads 170 degrees,  Cover loosely with foil if turkey browns too quickly.  Cover and let stand 15 minutes before carving.

This is a delicious way to make turkey breasts. I like to put the celery and onion inside the chest cavity.

The pictures today are from my grandson’s  birthday party a few years ago when we had a much larger group celebrating. The kids were a few years younger and smaller than they are now.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for.  There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

11,622for peace when victory over Japan was declared, the end of WWII.

11,623 for a party to go to which also means I get cake! 

11,624.  for DS#5 and his wife who will be our hosts for dinner. 

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
