Hallmark!
Today is National Cheeseburger Day which is a day to fire up the grill or head to your favorite restaurant .
There are several different theories about the origins of the cheeseburger. One story goes that a homeless man dining at Sterberger’s restaurant in Pasadena, California, suggested the addition of a slice of cheese to his hamburger order. Sternberger complied, eventually added it to his menu and the rest is history.
Today cheese burgers are a staple at resturants and backyard celebrations all across the County.
To celebrate today, enjoy a delicious Cheeseburger in honor of the day!
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I can’t be on the cheeseburger diet all the time.
Bobby Flay
When we have cookouts, cheese burgers are often on the menu. Everyone likes their burger with cheese on it. Especially the kids. I love anything on the grill and If I get a choice, I’ll take cheese on mine too.
We’ll be having some scattered showers today and I have no outdoor grill, anyway. But I can still make a cheeseburger to enjoy.
I’ll grill mine on the stove top. I bought a special skillet that is for grilling and will use it today. We are expecting a high of 71 today, It’s cool, but not too bad to cook outside if you can.
On my menu for today is:
Smash Burgers
6 oz. mushrooms, stems removed
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 Tsp garlic and herb seasoning such as Mrs. Dash
1/8 tsp. smoked paprika
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 Tbsp. oil, divided
1/2 tsp ground pepper
4 slices American cheese
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
Lettuce slices, tomato, thinly sliced onion and/or dill pickles for serving.
Smokey Balsamic Sauce:
2 Tbsp. mayonnaise
2 Tbsp. Greek style yogurt
1 tsp. balsamic vinegar
1/3 tsp. ground pepper
1/4 tsp. smoked paprika
To prepare burgers: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place mushroom, Worcestershire , garlic and herb seasoning and 1/8 tsp. smoked paprika in a food processor. Process until mushrooms are finely chopped. Transfer to a large bowl.
Add ground beef to the mushroom mixture. Using your hand mix together until combined. Divide the mixture into 4 balls, place on prepared baking sheet. Cover and refrigerate 10 minutes.
Meanwhile prepare sauce: Combine mayonaise, yogurt, vinegar, pepper and smoked paprika, refrigerate until ready to serve.
When the balls are chilled; heat 1 Tbsp. oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium heat about 3 minutes . Sprinkle balls with pepper. Increase heat to high; continue to heat oil for 2 minutes.
Place 2 balls in pan. Working quickly, use a rigid metal spatula to press down firmly, smashing the balls into flat patties, If desired use another spatula to press down on the first spatula to create a lever and spread patties evenly. Cook undisturbed until a golden brown, crispy crust forms on the bottoms, about 3 minutes. Carefully flip, top each patty with 1 cheese slice. Cook undisturbed until a thermometer inserted registers 160 degrees about 2 minutes. Transfer burgers to a plate, cover to keep warm. Wipe the pan clean and repeat with the remaining 1Tbsp. oil and 2 balls.
Arrange the burgers on bun bottoms. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion and or pickles if desired. Spread the cut sides of bun tops evenly with sauce and place on top. Enjoy! I didn’t have any greek yogurt so I will use sour cream in my sauce. Otherwise I will follow the recipe

A burger with cheese is sure to hit the spot!
I have to be honest with you - I don't really care for cheese on my burger, but I can eat it.
Yum ... What an interesting way to fashion a burger!
I'm smiling b/c one of the popular new eateries in Phoenix is called "Smash Burger." While I was still working, I phoned for a take-out and the girl answered saying, "What can we start smashing for you?" Made me LOL.
Cheese burgers are very popular around this house. LOL Also enjoyed reading the recipe. Sounds good and good to read a recipe that calls for Ms Dash. LOL I use that all the time because I have no idea about spices. LOL
Love to you lady from down here. We will be packing the coach for the trip to
Florida.
Sherry & jack heading for the road.
