Hallmark!
Today is National Comic Book Day which honors these creative and inventive books that have been entertaining children and adults for more than 200 years.
While comic books have quite a storied history, they reach massive popularity in the late 1930’s. By mid 1940’s, comic books were outselling traditional books. Thousands of comic book characters have been developed over the years, many of which have inspired numerous television shows and blockbuster movies.
To celebrate today take a few minutes to catch up on your favorite comic or watch a movie based on your favorite series.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Manga and graphic novels are not just for kids; they are a form of art and literature that can be appreciated by people of all ages.

When I was younger, I did buy the occasional comic book but mostly I read traditional books. I went to the library all the time and they had both available. but most of the comics I see these days are read in the coloring books I get for my grandchildren and that is what I am showing today. It has lots to do in it, activities for the kids too and that what the pictures are of today.
When my own children were growing up, many of them started comic book collections, some of which are worth a lot of money now.
They were stored in my attic at the old house for quite awhile, but when I moved they had to take them and find their own place to store them. There wasn’t any storage room for them at the home I’m presently living in.
Today, I’m hoping to reduce the clothing I have stored away here at my house. It’s taking up valuable space. It’s time I got rid of what I no longer wear. They say if you haven’t worn something in a year, you don’t need it, but some of these clothes have been stored since I move in here 5 years ago. Itis time I gave them away. But I don’t know if anyone will want them as they are now out of fashion. That’s why I’ll give them away instead of selling them. Good will and Salvation both accept clothes which they resell at reduced rates. I also got a card from the Veterans saying they will come and get what I want to get rid of. It’s a good idea to help support our veterans.
This my day to cook up something new for this new week and on the menu is:
Corn Chowder with Bacon and Potato
Makes 6 servings
1/2 lb. bacon strips chopped
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed.
1 can, 14.75 oz. cream style corn
1 can evaporated milk
1/4 tsp pepper
In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp, stirring occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon, drain on paper towels. Discard drippings, reserving 1 1/2 tsp. in pan. Add onion to drippings and cook and stir over medium heat until tender.
Meanwhile place potatos in a saucepan, add water to cover. Bring to a boil on high heat. Reduce heat to medium; cook uncovered 15 minutes or until tender. Drain, reserving 1 cup of potato water.
Add corn milk, pepper, potatoes and reserve potato water to sauce pan, heat through. Stir in bacon and onion.
1 cup equals 1 serving
It’s cool enough today to enjoy a bowl of warm soup and I’ll enjoy this corn chowder. You could serve the bacon as a topping on the side if you wish, but I put mine in the chowder.
It’s delish and will warm you up on a cool day!
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week! Happy Mond
ay!

I LOVE TO READ STORIES THAT MAKE ME LAUGH! AND COMICS DO THAT!
Oh boy, this one brings back many memories both mine and my sons'. When we left GITMO I told my son to get rid of his collection. He hated it and I look back and am sorry I forced it. HOWEVER he bought a big collection when back in the states and found that finding a buyer for old comics although valued high, buyers were few to none.
Anyway Yes making room does force down sizing. Just moving from a 38 foot to a 36 foot RV made a BIG difference in storage, I couldn't believe it. I had to cut back on tools I carry . LOL
Enjoyed the read
Sherry & jack settling down in Florida for awhile.
I was too young to remember, but my mother used to tell the story how, while at Grand Central Station a random serviceman gave me his comic book. For years thereafter I was a big fan -- Archie and Jughead, Casper and I forget who else. Wish I'd thought to hang onto them, but like you, we've little to know extra storage space.
Thanks for this recipe! I'll probably be making a pot tomorrow -- all we need is the bacon!
I am hanging up with winter coming - it is still hot here. :(
Never was into comic books myself.
Your recipe sounds delish!
I loved comic books and had quite a collection in my day. If only I saved them! It's nippy here and even in sneakers and socks and my raincoat I was chilly today. Fall has arrived in NYC.
