Today is April Fool’s Day which is a day to beware of practical jokes, tricks, and pranks. It’s been celebrated for hundreds of years, no one really knows how the tradition began.
According to one theory, when France officially adopted the Roman calendar in the 1500’s many rural communities continue to celebrate New Years in April. The people in these small villages became known as April fools.
There are many famous and infamous April Fool’s Day jokes. In 1957, the BBC ran a very successful fake documentary that explained to viewers how spaghetti is grown on spaghetti trees. Many people actually believed it. In 1996, the Taco Bell Corporations took out a full page add in 6 major newspapers annoucing that it had purchased the Liberty Bell. Hundreds of enraged citizens called to protest the newly named Taco Liberty Bell. The company waited a few hours before admitting it was a practical joke.
To celebrate today, play a trick on a family member, and watch out for pranks on you.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three hundred and sixty four.
Mark Twain
I’m not joking, we are to have a wet and windy day today. The weather has once again played a joke on us. Just when plans had been made for an Easter Egg hunt, the weather turned terrible. I’m sure we’ll still have a Easter egg hunt but it will probably be indoors. On the bright side, at least it will be warmer outside, we’ll be close to 60 degrees they say.
Driving on the Ohio turnpike will not be a pleasant ride today and I’m thankful DS#5 will be doing the driving and not me. We’ll be on the road about an hour and a half, so I guess it could be worse. Strong winds and rain do not make for good driving conditions. Everyone, please take care.
I won’t be cooking for the weekend today due to our family Feast, but if I had been there was
Hungarian Beef Goulash on the menu:
Serves 8
2 lbs beef stew meat
2 tsp. caraway seeds
1 1/2 Tbsp. sweet paprika, preferably Hungarian
Freshly ground pepper
2 onions, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
14 oz. can diced tomatoes
14 oz can no salt beef broth
1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 bay leaves
1 Tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 Tbsp. water
2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
Place beef in a slow cooker. Crush caraway seeds with the bottom of a saucepan. Transfer to small bowl and still in paprika and pepper. Sprinkle the beef with the mixture and toss to coat well. Top with onion and bell pepper.
Combine tomatoes, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic in a medium pan and bring to a simmer. Pour over the beef and vegetables. Place bay leaves on top and cover and cook until the beef is very tender. About 4 1/2 hours on high.
Discard the bay leaves. Add the cornstarch mixture and cook on high stirring 2 or 3 times, until slightly thickened. Sprinkle with parsley. Serve over egg noodles.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Happy April Fool's Day. You sure do have a lot of amazing facts here. I can't believe how many month celebrations there are for the tiny month of April.
We had rain here last night too.
Hope it dries up fast for you.
Giggling so at the spaghetti tree and Taco Liberty Bell! š¤£.
Ya, we had a terrific thunderstorm a few hours ago -- shook the whole house, but now it's like nothing happened. Hope the same holds true for you all!
I think I'm going to make this goulash recipe for our dinner tomorrow.
