Life is a special 

occasion!

Hallmark!

 

Today is St. Nicholas Day, also known as the Feast of St. Nicholas.  This holiday commemorates the early Christian bishop who became best known as Santa Claus.

Traditionally, people across the world will celebrate gift giving, stories and a feast.  It’s a good day to write those letters to good old St. Nick.

St. Nicholas was born in Patara, Lycia, part of the modern day Turkey, and died on December 6th in the year 343 AD.  Centuries after his death, Nicholas became known as the patron saint of children and a generous bringer of gifts.  This day was widely celebrated in Europe from 1200 to 1500.  The legend and name of St. Nicholas evolved over hundreds of years—from the Dutch Saint Niklass to Sinterklaas to Santa Claus as we know him today.  

To celebrate today, write a letter to St. Nicholas with all your wishes for Christmas.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.  So up to the house top the coursers they flew, with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

For years we celebrated St. Nicholas Day with the babes setting their shoes by the firelplace when they went to bed the night before and the next morning, their shoes would be filled with little toys and candy.  The story goes if you have been good you’ll get some treats, but if you were bad, you’d get coal in your shoe. Of course we had only good kids, no one ever got coal in the shoes at our house. 

We have a chance of rain now for the next few days and then it will be colder once again for the weekend.  Tonight I’m supposed to be going to our Cutie Pattootie's school winter concert.  They don’t call it a Christmas concert any more.  I miss the days when they sang all the Christmas carols and really put you in the spirit of the season.  But now things are changing.  I’m sure it’ll still be fun but just not quite the same.  DS#5 will pick me up and give me a ride along with their family.  Unlike the play, we don’t have to travel far and it should be a much earlier night.

COUNTING MY GIFTS 

The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic His giving, by grace, through faith, and this not of of ourselves.

St. Nicholas of Myra 

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for.  There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

 

10,854.   for St. Nicholas who was a real man 

10,855. for a concert to go to 

10,856. for a ride so I don’t have to drive in the dark.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

  

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
