occasion!

Hallmark!

Today is New Year’s Eve which is celebrated across the globe.  Many cultures have fireworks displays and other festivities to celebrate the start of the New Year.  In Mexico, people  make a wish and eat a grape with each of the twelve chimes of the bell during the countdown to the New Year.  In Brazil, they typically dress in white to bring good luck and peace for the year to come.

In the United States, New Years Eve is usually a major social holiday.  Typically, huge crowds gather in New York City to watch the ball drop in Times Square, a tradition that began in 1907 after firecrackers were outlawed. At midnight, it is customary to kiss a loved one, toast with champagne and sing Auld Lang Syne.

Celebrate this day at home with family or out with friends and make sure to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

For New Year’s Eve, I’d usually be sitting at home by myself and watching the festivities and the ball drop on TV.  But thanks to my children I’m spending this New Year’s Eve at DS#4’s house in sunny and warm Florida.   

My son says he will be fixing a Prime Rib roast for dinner tonight and a pork roast for dinner tomorrow.  It’s a tradition for our family  to have pork roast and sauerkraut for good luck on New Years Day.  But in DDIL#6’s house they have home made chicken soup. DSIL says they always have back eyed peas in his family for New Years.  There are many varied and different traditions, but all hope for good luck in the New Year. 

I’m wishing you all a safe and Happy New Year filled with lots of good luck!  Happy New Year ! Happy 2023!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

  

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
