THOUGHT FOR TODAY
As we struggle with shopping lists and invitations, compounded by December’s bad weather, it is good to be reminded that there are people in our lives who are worth this aggravations, and people to whom we are worth the same.
Donald E. Westlake
I started my cards a few days ago so I will celebrate today and finish them up. I went out and got stamps in order to mail them and today I plan to finish them all.
So many don’t send them out any more but I happen to think the people I send them too are worth the cost of a stamp. So far I haven’t gotten any but when I do I keep them long after Christmas and pray for those that sent me a card.
One year I sent out an email of my Christmas letter to all of you, but I didn’t do one this year. I’m addressing cards that I bought. If you don’t get a card from me, it means I don’t have your address. But I do wish you all the happiest of holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
It’s my day to cook here and on the menu is:
Satisfying Tomato Soup
Makes 4 servings
2 tsp. canola oil
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
2 cans, 14 oz each, diced tomatoes , undrained
1 1/2 cups water
2 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Minced fresh basil, optional
In a saucepan, heat oil over medium high heat. Add onion and celery, cook and stir until tender. Add remaining ingredients except for optional fresh basil. Bring to a boil , simmer, uncovered 10 minutes to allow flavors to blend.
Puree soup using an immersion blender. If desired, top with fresh minced basil before serving.
I will use crushed tomatoes instead of the diced ones so I won’t need to puree it. And I’ll be having a grilled cheese along with my soup today.
We are still in the low 40’s here today. It’s cloudy with a chance of rain and a very good day for soup!
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
Just remember, the true spirit of Christmas lies in your heart.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Send out some Christmas cheer today and mail a Christmas card to those you love. They are worth the cost of a stamp!
The tomato soup is a good idea on a cold winter day. I have to say that I do not send out cards anymore - between the cost of the cards and the stamps it's like a hundred dollars!
Yes as Chatty said, we hae cut back to just the family to hold their monetary gifts. We gave up trying to shop for any of them, even the kids.
I had already started our chicken veggie soup. I want to save the recipe and do it later, Tomato soup is one of my most favorites.
Love from down this way, STAY WARM

Receiving and displaying Christmas cards used to be one of the best parts of the holiday. Especially if they contained a newsletter or a few handwritten notes.
I've decided not to send cards this year - both because of the cost and my dwindling recipient list. Many have passed away and the others 'keep up' via FB and my blog.
PS - Could you send some of your cold weather our way? (Pretty Please?) This week's temps have been in the 80's which makes me sad.
