ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 23RD, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is the Indianapolis 500 which draws thousands of spectators each year to its speedway in Indianapolis to watch the 500 hundred mile, two hundred lap race. Once called the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, this race has become an American tradition.
The first Indianapolis 500 race drew 80,200 spectators who each paid $1 admission fee. Since then, capacity at the speedway has increased to 250,00 permanent seats, making the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the worlds largest sporting facility. For the 2020 race, the speedway will be restricted to 50 percent capacity to maintain social distancing.
The Indy 500 is an event rich in traditions. For example, multi colored balloons are always released at the start of the race. It’s also become tradition for the winner to kneel and kiss the Yard of Bricks, to pay tribute to the Speedway. It’s the combination of tradition and excitement that makes the Indy 500 one of the most popular single day sporting events in the world.
To celebrate, gather virtually to find out who will win this year!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Tradition lives because young people come along who catch its romance and add new glories to it.
Michael Novak
I’ve never been a big fan of racing. I like living in the slow lane, but I do love traditions that carry over from year to year. They are the continuty that holds us todether. That’s not to say you have to hold to all the old traditions, but you can make new traditions of your own.
Nothing this year has been done as it’s always been, but there are new ways of doing things presenting themselves every day. We are now safer, more cautious people discovering new ways to keep us safe and also following old traditions like washing hands. That one goes back a long ways for most of us to when we were kids and mom always told us to wash our hands before dinner.
She was right and I’m sure her mother told her the same.
Speaking of dinner, mine is all ready and waiting to be heated up as I fixed it yesterday. I’ll be having the remains of my Beef Sirloin with Spinach. Mmmm good. It was a new recipe for me, but setting aside Sunday as a day of rest is an old tradition for me. Going back to the days of my grandmother when Sundays meant going to church, not doing any work and hours of visiting with family instead.
I’m still missing church very much but am looking forward to returning in September. I have a little grandson that will be making his first communion then and I will definitely be there for that special occasion Our church has been open with safe distancing procedures put into place and this is one time, I need to go. Wouldn’t miss it.
It’s another one of those traditions we practice in our family established by Jesus himself. My grandson has been preparing for this special date by going to religion classes and learning about his faith. I’m proud of him and his parents for making sure he’s had the choice.
The pictures today are of a toy race track I have here at my house for the grands, which is the closest I come to racing these days.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Traditions tell us where we have come from. Scripture itself is a better guide as to where we should now be going.

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Traditions are the guideposts driven deep in our subconscious minds. The most powerful ones are those we can’t even describe, aren’t even aware of .

There is more than one speed to life. Take it slow and enjoy the ride.
Enjoyed this post and your dinner looks delicious!
The photos show my kind of racing too lol. Enjoy that yummy dinner tonight and have a relaxing Sunday!
That is a cool looking race track! I bet your grands like playing on it! I didn't realize the Indy 500 was happening today. I used to enjoy watching it when I was younger. There is much pageantry associated with it! Yummy on the recipe! The picture looked delicious! We started going back to church last week in person; not our regular church but a different one that had reopened as ours hadn't yet.
betty
Gosh, that photo of your dinner has my mouth watering!
Unlike Tom, I'm not a big fan of racing -- but really enjoy witnessing enduring traditions. The Kentucky Derby, for instance. I've never lived there, but when they start playing "My Old Kentucky Home" it's a good bet I'll stand up and sing along, probably with with tears in my eyes.
