ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 13TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Toady is a very Happy Anniversary to DS#6 and his wife.
An anniversary is the time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday and the hopes of tomorrow

May the dear Lord bless you both today and always !
Happy Anniversary!
Today is also Left Handers Day which is a day we celebrate 10 percent of the population that is left handed. This day is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the needs of left handed children.
If you are left handed you know that living in a world designed for right handed people can be difficult. Opening doors, writing in spiral notebooks, and using a computer mouse can be awkward and frustrating. Studies have shown that left handedness is often associated with intelectual creativity. Famous left handers include Michelangelo, Mozart, Jim Hendrix, Jim Henson, and 8 of our 44 presidents.
There are several ways to celebrate today, If you are left handed declare a lefty zone around your personal space where everything must be done left handed. If you’re a righty, do something nice for your lefty friends.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
If the left half of the brain contols the right half of the body then only left handed people are in the right mind.
W.C. Fields
This anniversary is another one of my long distance celebrations so a card will be sent out in the mail with anniversary wishes for a happy day and the promise of babysitting services when ever they need.
DDH was a lefty, but he also used his right hand with skill. He had beautiful handwriting and was good at sports like golf, bowling and softball. He didn’t let his left handedness make a whole lot of difference in his life. There was a time when good handwriting was important and I imagine it took quite a lot of practicing when it came to writing as well as he did. He had a nice slant to his letters that couldn’t have been done any better if he’d been right handed. Hand writing doesn’t seem to mean as much these days as it used to. We all use keyboards to write our words on computers more than not.
None of my children are left handed but we do have at least one grandchild that is left handed along with a few other assorted in laws. The main thing I have to remember is to place them at the end of the table where they have room to use their left hand to eat and not stuck in the middle of other right handers.
On todays menu is a
Tomato , Cucumber and White Bean Salad with Basil Vinaigrette.
This no cook bean salad is a delicious way to use summer’s best cherry or grape tomatoes and juicy cucumbers for a light dinner. Fresh basil elevates an easy vinaigrette recipe that dresses up this simple salad.
Makes 4 servings
1/2 c. packed fresh basil leaves
1/4 extra virgin olive oil
3 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 tbsp finely chopped shallot
2 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp. honey
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
10 cups mixed salad greens
1 15 oz. can cannellini beans, rinsed
1 c. halved cherry or grape tomatoes
1/2 cucumber, halved lengthwise and sliced, 1 cup
Place basil, oil, vinegar, shallot mustard, honey, salt and pepper in a mini food processor. Process until mostly smooth. Transfer to a large bowl. Add greens, beans, tomatoes and cucumber. Toss to coat.
We are continuing to have some beautiful summer days here with temps in the mid to lower 80;s so this salad will be perfect for today. As it’s also my day to get grocery delivery by DD, so I’ve decided to clean out the fridge a bit to make room for incoming food. With all the varieties of fresh foods, it’s more cluttered than usual. I also have some leftovers that have seen their better day to get rid of. Making something new every day doesn’t give much time to use them up unless I eat them for lunch the next day. Which is what I try to do. The good news is that I am eating healthier than I ever did.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
The left handed are precious; they take places which are inconvenient for the rest.

Every day is one to celebrate !
Happy Anniversary to DS#6 and his wife! Your salad sounds delicious. I can remember when I was a kid teachers tried to force left handed children to use their right hand - how awful is that?! Enjoy the beautiful weather Ma and have a great day :)
Happy 😀 Anniversary 🌹
Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. DS#6! Such a nice-looking couple!
Yep, I'm a leftie and can sure identify with 'challenges' like 3-ring notebooks and where to sit at the table. Oh, and the left side of my hand being all blue with ink stains when I'd write. Happy day when they began manufacturing steno pads with the spiral on top! That's pretty neat about your late hubby having nice handwriting. Like what I shared in part today, I remember being criticized on my handwriting on my report card.
Happy anniversary to your son and DIL! Lovely couple they are!! Yummy on that salad! I like how it doesn't have to be cooked!! You definitely are eating healthier these days Ma and I'm enjoying the recipes you are sharing with us!
