ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 17TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.
40 DAYS UNTIL FALL

Today is National Thrift Shop Day which honors the beneficial impact these shops have on others. There are not so many thrift shops left but the concept behind them was to help people in need of support. Anyone can go there and sell things that they do not use anymore and earn money throughout these sales. Apart from the proceeds of those shops are donated to charitable societies.
It’s a good idea to seek for a thrift shop in your neighborhood and maybe you will find something nice to buy. With the money you spend there, you can help someone else by getting something new for yourself.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
He that does not economize will have to agonize.
Confuciou
The first picture today shows a toy fire engine that I picked up many years ago at thrift store. I still have it and some of the smaller grandchildren still use it. One of the better bargains I ever got. It cost around 3 dollars but has given hours of pleasure to my grandchildren. One thing that is always free and I love to see is a beautiful sunset and that’s the last picture for today. It’ doesn’t cost a cent, but brings a lot of enjoyment.
The thrift shops in our area are ones like Goodwill and Salvation Army. They do sell the donations of others to benefit others. I’ve donated a lot of things I no longer needed over the years. Things that still had some use to them, but that I didn’t need. I try to sort things out whenever I change the seasonal clothing around and give away things I didn’t use in the past year or so. Why keep them, if they might be of use to someone else.
As hard as it is to imagine, we’ll soon have to get the fall clothing out. Labor Day will soon be here and days will begin to get cooler. Although we don’t see a lot of change come until about the 3rd week of September. I’m sure there are some summer things I didn’t wear at all this year, so I’ll be setting those aside to give away to the thrift shops.
One man’s trash is always someone else’s treasure. I always manage to find something new for myself too when I visit them. It’s nice to find a treasure that doesn’t cost much at all.
On today’s menu is :
Baked Chicken Breasts
4 skinless boneless chicken breasts
lemon pepper seasoning
olive oil
Preheat oven to 375 degrees before cooking. Brush chicken breasts with olive oil and sprinkle with lemon pepper.
You may also lightly sprinkle with garlic powder, salt and pepper
Bake for 15 minutes on each side or until chicken is opaque in color and juices no longer run pink. 160 degrees
Serve with sweet potatoes, green beans or creamed corn.
Baked chicken is wonderful to have on hand and you can use it in many other dishes, so I try to make extra to have on hand.
My sister gave me fresh green beans straight from her son’s garden over the weekend and I cooked up a large pot full so I’ll be having those with my dinner along with a cucumber and onion salad. I had those on hand from the grocery store.
I like the feeling of having a new week ahead and will be planning on what to do. It always helps to keep a to do list to keep us on track. One thing for certain, life is never boring here at my house.
So much to do, so little time to get it all done. I move slowly so it takes some planning if I want to get anything done.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!

The things that often mean the most, cost the least.
Beautiful sunset! I love going to thrift store and really miss it these days. I donate to them often as well. Unfortunately many of the private little stores that I loved the most have closed during the pandemic. Even our local Goodwill has shut it's doors. It's very sad to see. I hope you have a great week :)
I LOVE thrifting! But fear my sweet hubby might hold up his hands, "Enough!" Not sure if our Goodwill has reopened, but I've a box been riding around in my car's trunk for ages. My DIL used to shop there regularly; and her only caution was not to buy anything that can't be put in the washing machine or sanitized. (I think she was referring to bed bugs.)
Pretty sunset! I love the Goodwill here. Haven't been in a few months but always found great toys there for the wee one.
