ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 28TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Cherry Turnover Day which celebrates a delicious pastry that can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert. They originated in ancient times and are classified as portable pies. Other dishes in the culinary family include pasties, empanadas and spring rolls.
A traditional cherry turnover recipe calls for puff pastry, which is stuffed with gooey cherry filling and then baked until golden brown. There are many variations on this classic treat, though. Some recipes call for cream cheese, extra lemon juice, or even ice cream.
To celebrate National Cherry Turnover Day, bake your own homemade cherry turnovers and have a couple with a good cup of coffee. Bon appetit!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
There’s no diet list I’ll follow that would rule out cherry pie.

I will be making a variety of cherry turnovers today using refrigerated crescent dough instead of puff pastry. They are easy to do and quick. I allow myself to spurge now and then to reward myself for the heathy diet I’ve been on.
Quick Cherry Turnovers
1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls
1 coo cherry pie filling
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Unroll crescent dough and separate into four rectangles. place on an ungreased baking sheet. Press perforations to seal. Place 1/4 c. pie filling on one half of each rectangle. Fold dough over filling and prince edges to seal. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Place conjecturers sugar in a small bowl, stir in enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over turnovers. Serve warm. As you can see by the pictures I didn’t put any icing on mine.
Along with my splurge today I will be cooking dinner and on the menu is.
One Pot Sausage and Veggies
1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
1/2 yellow bell pepper sliced
1/3 green bell pepper sliced
1 zucchini, halved and sliced
1/2 onion sliced
9 oz smoked sausage, sliced.
3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
1/2 tsp garlic powder or minced garlic
1 tbsp italian seasoning
salt and pepper
fresh parsley, chopped
In a heavy bottomed pan like cast iron, heat 3 tbsp olive oil over medium high heat. Brown the sausage and remove and set aside. Add onion and garlic and cook for 2 minutes with remaining cooking oil. Add bell peppers and zucchini and season with red pepper flakes, italian seasoning , salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes until softened , stirring occasionally.
Add the cooked sausage and mix everything together. Add chicken broth and cook for 5 minutes more. Adjust seasoning g and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately.
I had originally planned a cabbage soup but forgot to get cabbage but I do have plenty of zucchini. So this will work very nicely.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!

ADVICE FOR TODAY
Life is just a bowl of cherries, don’t take it serious, it’s mysterious. Life is just a bowl of cherries, so live and laugh and laugh at love, love a laugh, laugh and love.

A bit of love from someone dear…

Live and laugh!
Well now I'm really tempted, I just got puff pastry BOGO this week! Enjoy your dinner and your cherry turnovers :)
Those turnovers look sooo good ... not unlike the fried pies so popular in West Texas. I agree, the occasional treat is good medicine for one's morale. (*smile*) We eats lots of sausage and peppers, but I hadn't thought about adding zucchini ... great idea!
Yum on those turnovers! And I am going to make this sausage recipe this weekend! Sounds yummy!
