ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Ash Wednesday which begins the season of Lent. This period of fasting is traditionally a time of reflection and atonement. Ash Wednesday prepares us for Easter Sunday which celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One tradition of Ash Wednesday is to receive ashes. The ashes in today’s service were made from palms that were used on Palm Sunday of the previous year. These ashes are placed on foreheads as a reminder of our human condition, that we are dust and to dust we shall return.
Today is also National Oreo Cookie Day, Frozen Food Day and National White Chocolate Cheese Cake Day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Ash Wednesday is a reminder of our humanity;
Jenni Friedman
Yes, we are only human after all. None of us is perfect and we all make mistakes. But by saying we’re sorry and asking forgiveness we can start over again.
For me it is important to prepare for Easter. It makes us aware of what Easter is truly all about. I have a lot to do between now and Easter Day. Preparation is always half the fun, and I’m joyfully anticipating Easter and will be looking forward to it.
Spring begins March 20th and Easter will be on April 21st this year, so it should be a whole lot warmer by then. Our family Easter gathering will be on April 13th. We always try to get together at a different time than the actual date.
I’ve put the last of my leftovers from the Sunday roast in the freezer to make Shepherds pie for St. Patrick’s day. It’s an Irish dish that I want to make this year in order to celebrate. So I’m cooking something new today and Wednesday’s supper will be beef and noodles cooked in the crockpot. I had purchased a roast last week and had it cut into cubes, so today I’m using one of those packages I had put away in the freezer.
Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff
1 onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic, chopped
1 lb. boneless beef, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
2 cans creamy mushroom soup
1/2 c. water
2 1/2 c. wide egg noodles
1 c. sour cream
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, if desired.
In slow cooker, layer onion, garlic, and beef. Pour soup and water over beef, Cover and cook on low heat about 5 hours until beef is tender. Stir in noodles and increase setting to high. Cover and cook 20 to 30 minutes or until noodles are tender. Add more liquid, if needed. Stir in sour cream and garnish with parsley to serve.
Makes 5 servings
I have made this with mushroom soup and a packet of instant onion soup too, but this is a step up because it has the added sour cream.
Today’s pictures are of another tree that was cut down next to my house this week. I am sad to see it go. On the bright side I still have the tree that is by my sun porch. Hopefully they won’t be cutting that one down too.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Start each day with a grateful heart
Psalm 107:1
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
6854. for preparation for any holiday, it’s always half the fun
6855. for an easy dinner to fix
6856. for one remaining tree for shade this summer
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Lent is a time for preparation ...
Awwww.... what a big tree, MA, and from the looks of the core it seemed healthy? Why did they cut it down? I hate to lose trees but sometimes it's necessary as they pose a hazard. We had a tree come down through our living room ceiling one time. I'm lucky I didn't have a heart attack.... the drywall was swinging! Love, Andrea xoxo
I've never made Beef Stroganoff in a crockpot before. It never even occurred to me that you actually could do the noodles in there, too! Sounds a lot easier than the kitchen-trashing way I usually prepare it. Thanks!
That was a big tree that was cut down! It is good that we have the time of preparation during Lent for the great celebration of Easter! I like when Easter falls later in April too because you know pretty much its going to be a pleasant weather day.
betty
We've not yet finished our pork stew, but I'm clipping your stroganoff recipe … so much better-sounding that those 'in the box' affairs! Seeing that big tree being carried away is a sad sight; perhaps some craftsman will repurpose it. (I hope?)
This recipe sounds delicious and I just printed it up. This will be a great Friday night dinner.
Your prayer for the military is so thoughtful. We live near Camp Pendleton, CA, and the military are a vital part of our community.
Your posts always have me thinking.
