ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Old Stuff Day which gives us the opportunity to get rid of the same old stuff we usually do. To celebrate we could do something new like a new hobby.
Some of our old stuff deserves a place in our homes, because of nostalgic value but there are certainly some items we might want to finally get rid of. Old Stuff Day is a day for those decisions.
While grappling with worn out shoes, faded pictures, and clothes that no longer fit, think about the importance of those things and whether or not they are really needed.
While people often see old things as something to be replaced by new things, not all of them are useless. Many old items are like maps, books, jewelry, furniture, and clothes gain value as they age. They represent workmanship of a previous era that may not exist in present times.
Much more valuable than things, is the wisdom and knowledge we get from old people. We can learn their history, genealogy and origins. They provide us with a richer and more colorful account of the past than any history book can.
Celebrate the oldies but goodies!
Today is also National Banana Cream Pie Day, Namesake Day and Dr. Seuss'’s Birthday. March is International Ideas Month and National Celery Month

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled, The trick is know how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.
Ray Bradbury
I’m surrounded with old stuff here at my house. The old desk I have in the first picture was a gift I got for my 9th birthday. There is very little that is new including me. I am old. But my old stuff is comfortable and valued. I’ve sorted out what is no longer needed. I’ve so many hobbies, there is not a need for another new one, but that doesn’t mean I’m not open to new ways of doing things, there is always something new to learn every day.
These days, if I get something new, which is rare, I do get rid of something old. There is no room here for both. When you live in a small home with limited space, you do tend to be more selective when getting something new. If I don’t need it, I won’t buy it. Things do have a way of stacking up and I’m already bursting at the seams with what I have.
Today I’m cooking for the weekend. I have macaroni salad to make for the party tomorrow and the Crock Pot will be simmering away with the last of the pork roasts in the freezer.
Slow Cooker Pork Roast
1 pork loin roast
1 pkg. onion soup mix
1 tbsp. fresh minced garlic or 1 tsp dried garlic powder
1 tsp. black pepper
1 cup water
Place roast in Crockpot. Add water spices and soup mix. Cook 4 hours on high for a 2 lb. roast, add 1 additional hour per pound over that.
Potatoes and carrots may be added under the roast, if desired. It’s delicious served with gravy made from the cooking liquid.
It’s cold here and getting colder so it’s a good day to stay in and keep warm.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I’m sitting her thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don’t hurt.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

I'm a oldie but goodie...
I like all the pictures you shared today of your house, Ma. Looks really cozy and how cool to have a desk from when you were 9 years old. It is good to always go through our things and downsize. Makes room for other things we might want to get along the way. Have a great Saturday!

Thank you for sharing your cozy home with us, Pam! LOVE that desk! Having been raised in little apartments, I'm particularly fond of small places.
Tomorrow's weather forecast calls for a BIG dip in temperatures, and it 'just so happens' I've a 2# pork loin and minced garlic in the fridge. Adding the onion soup dry mix sounds like a great idea!
You have a lovely warm home! We have a fairly recent crock pot as well and are really enjoying it. Our small one is perfect for nachos and cheese, so our gr-kids now own it. That recipe sounds perfect.
I understand what you mean about "old stuff". When we moved here, we had to de-clutter the house. Some old stuff just couldn't stay, so I took many photos of them and will someday make a collage. I'll ask my 14 yr. old gr-daughter to do it.
I had that same desk and wish I still had it. I tried to remember how it got lost along the way but just can't. I went out and bought some old stuff today, so maybe I will get rid of some new stuff I have lying around. I'm doing it backwards I am afraid, but I like old better than new.
