ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Bicarbonate of Soda Day! Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is used in baking, cooking, deodorizing, cleaning, polishing, and countless other applications.
The ancient Egyptians used natural deposits of sodium bicarbonate as a cleansing agent like soap, but it wasn't until 1791 that French chemist Nicolas Leblanc produced sodium bicarbonate in its modern form. In 1846, two New York bakers named John Dwight and Austin Church established the first factory to make baking soda.
Baking soda is a white, odorless, crystalline solid that is completely soluble in water. It is very useful around the home, the kitchen, and for medical purposes. Did you know that baking soda can even be used as an antacid to treat indigestion and heartburn? Sodium bicarbonate certainly deserves a whole day of celebration!
Happy National Bicarbonate of Soda Day!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we've no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
What would we do without baking soda? I use it in baking, and in cleaning. I’ve never used it though for indigestion. Thankfully that is something I rarely have. I have put some in the bath to relieve sunburn and make a paste of it to relieve the sting of a wasp bite too.
I didn’t know that it will tenderize beef and chicken. It will make your mashed potatoes super fluffy. It will neutralize the acidity of orange juice. The uses for baking soda seem endless.
Today we are to get more snow and it remains terribly cold. Hovering at mid teens for a high and in the single digits for a low. This bone chilling cold is hard to take and we have warnings to watch for frostbite if you are in the cold for any length of time. I put the hood of my coat up when I go out and tie a scarf around my neck and pull it up over my nose and of course nice warm boots are a must. Wool socks keep your feet warm too.
The pictures below are of some of the cute signs I saw in one of the gift shops I visited when DD and I went shopping. Who knows I might just paint something like them for a gift next Christmas.
Be safe and keep warm !
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Bacon Day which celebrates crispy strips of salted pork…bacon. It’s a day to thoroughly enjoy bacon. Dinner could be a wide range of entrees, from a bacon cheeseburger to a bacon wrapped step. Your salad should be topped with bacon as well as your loaded baked potato.
They say everything tastes better with bacon so I found a tasty bacon recipe to share today.
Ground beef combines with bacon to add a delicious flavor to this easy cheeseburger pie
Impossibly Easy Bacon Cheeseburger Pie
6 slices bacon
1 lb lean ground beef
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 large onion, chopped
1/4 cup ketchup
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup Original Bisquick baking mix
1 cup milk
2 eggs
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Spray 9 inch glass pie plate with cooking spray. In 10 inch skillet, cook bacon over medium high heat 5 to 7 minutes, turning once, until crisp; drain on paper towels. Crumble bacon; set aside.
In same skillet, cook beef, pepper and onion over medium high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain. Stir in ketchup. Spread in pie plate; sprinkle with cheese and bacon.
In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients with wire whisk or fork until blended. Pour into pie plate.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with additional ketchup if desired.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
Anne Dudley Bradstreet
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Baking soda sure has a lot of good uses for it. I like how it keeps the refrigerator fresh smelling.

Hey, if I slip some baking soda in my husband's orange juice, will he think I am up to no good? HA! (Might think I have been reading too much Agatha Christie.)
Seriously, he has acid reflux, so I think it might be a good idea. Thanks for telling me this!
I love the Hal Borland quote. Loved his books.
I wouldn’t know how to act with winters like yours. Texas is cold and preparing for a week of freezing temps and down in the teens at night. This caused us to postpone our trip to our camper at my stepson’s ranch. No heat there at this time but a small electric heater. I could do it but the cold is really hard on Louis Dean so we are going to wait a week for warmer weather.
Happy New Year to you!
Just this year I've discovered how great baking soda is to clean with ... but I hadn't heard of adding it to mashed potatoes or orange juice. Amazing little box, isn't it?
I sure miss having the opportunity to bundle up in woolies and boots, but I'm sorry to hear of your discomfort. Stay safe on the roads out there!
