ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is International Volunteer Day which was designated by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism. Today we celebrate
the contribution and achievements of volunteers.
Simply put, our volunteers make the world a better place. The day is an opportunity for individual volunteers and organisations to promote their contributions at a local, national and international level.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I am only one, but still I am one; I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do the something I can do.
Helen Keller
It is a good feeling to help others and when you volunteer your time and talent it not only helps others, but it has it’s own rewards too. When you help, you appreciate what you have and realize how blessed you are. The more we give, the happier we feel. There are many different ways that we can help others as part of our everyday life. Carrying out good deeds doesn't need to take a lot of time or even cost money. Volunteering can bring meaning and purpose to our life, while increasing our self esteem and wellbeing.
Over the years I did a lot of volunteer work, mostly with the scouts and my church, but now a days my volunteering is mostly in the form of babysitting and dog sitting. I’m often the recipient of others help more than I can help others and I am thankful for it. I could only wish I still had the l energy I used to have. Now it seems I rest more than I work. I may not be able to do a lot, but I think that if we all did just a little, the world would be a better place.
After today, we’re to get much colder here. The nice weather has quite spoiled me, but truth is that winter is coming. After living here all my life, you’d think I’d be used to it, but I’m not. Good thing I have lots to keep me busy indoors.
Today’s pictures are from last winter for those who con’t remember what winter looks like.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Sacher Torte Day
Sacher torte is a classic Austrian chocolate cake layered with apricot preserves. The recipe today is for an easy version, maybe not as rich, but just as tasty.
Easy Sacher Torte
1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
1 pkg dark chocolate frosting
1/4 cup apricots preserves
Bake the cake in two 9 inch pans according to directions. Cool to room temperature.
Place one layer of cake onto a serving plate. Spread apricot jam over the top to 1/2 inch from the edge. Place second layer on top. Frost sides first, then top with the prepared icing.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5500. for volunteers, their contributions make a world of difference
5501. for a warm cozy house making winter bearable
5502. for cake, chocolate is always good
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
Leo Buscaglia
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

The smallest act of caring...I love that last quote. You always have the best quotes!
Volunteers, we should be grateful for them!
Take care!
Do you live in a mobile home park, MA? If so, is it a part dedicated to us "seasoned citizens" or is it for anyone? If anyone, do you have any problems with the young, riff-raff type neighbors? Just curious... for our future endeavors. xoxo
What a novel recipe!
What I'd give for a trust-worthy dog sitter right about now. That's definitely a gift!
We have certainly had a crazy winter so far. Today it got colder here in Kansas. I should try to do some sort of volunteer work. I am dog sitting right now!
