ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Roots Day which is a day to celebrate your genealogy. Many of us are returning to our roots today, as we head home for Christmas. Returning to our roots is a warm, cozy and comfortable feeling, a sense of belonging.
One of the most important aspects of Root Day is that it falls directly before Christmas, thus illustrating the importance and meaning of family during these times especially. Holidays are traditionally spent with any and all kinds of family, so it is only fitting that a holiday celebrating or ancestral heritage should fall during the same period.
Many people get caught up, and become captivated, with researching and uncovering their family roots. This hobby is the study of Genealogy. Genealogy can take interesting twists and turns. We often discover we come from exciting and fascinating places. We find links to famous people in history. Sometimes, we come upon dead ends to our genealogical family tree. Other times, we find a distant relative, who has performed some of the very same research. The result of the encounter could be huge sections of the family tree, literally handed to you.
Celebrate this day, by learning more about your family tree, and exploring your roots.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Homecoming means tradition.

Many family traditions and the way we do things come from our ancestors. It’s good to know where they came from and why. I’m a mixture of several different heritages but a lot of what I do was passed on by my parents and they learned from their parents and so it goes….generation after generation passing on a way of life. It’s important that we tell the stories and pass our knowledge on to our own families too.
All is pretty quiet here on the home front so today DD and I have plans to make a traditional trip of our own. It has nothing to do with my ancestors, but has become a tradition our own making. It’ll include a little shopping and a meal. Ironically our destination is called the ROOT Candle Company. Snow is in the forecast so I’m hoping the roads stay clear. Hopefully I’ll get some pictures to share.
The pictures today are from the last time we went there which was a few years ago. The trip got to be a bit much with all the little ones, so we stopped going. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s changed.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!

COUNTING MY GIFTS
There are only two lasting bequests that we can hope to give our children—roots and wings. And they can be grown—these roots and wings—only in the home.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Have fun with your daughter today, Ma! Sounds like a great adventure! It is funny how we grow up with traditions and then we marry someone, incorporate their traditions, and make new ones. That's life!

I love it that you’re going to the ROOTS candle shop! I love their candles.
I have had some DNA testing just because I wanted to know from where in the world I came. However, I do not know the name of my biological father so all the matches of DNA have no meaning for me and I just don’t think it’s possible to do any meaningful research except on my mother’s side of the family. Which we did and discovered that our granny and grandad lost their first born son. We never knew that.
My sister’s having fun with the research since my siblings all know who their fathers were. Mother can’t speak now due to a stroke nor can she write so there’s no way she can tell me a name now and she refused before the stroke. So I claimed the scripture that God will be the Father to the fatherless a long time ago.
Enjoy your Mother/Daughter day! Share your hearts and time with each other. A perfect way to spend this Eve of Christmas Eve!
