ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Merry Christmas from my house to yours !
Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Forefather's Day which commemorates the pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock in 1620. They left for the New World, to escape religious persecution. After a late fall start, the Mayflower set sail from England and landed at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts just before Christmas. This holiday is celebrated largely in New England. If you are not from New England, chances are you this is the first you have heard of Forefather's Day.
The contemporary version of the feast is the Old Colony Club or Mayflower Society dinner party, which usually involves eating succotash. Nowadays, succotash is a hearty stew made from vegetables and often thick slices of poultry placed on top, but at the time, it was nothing more than sweet corn and and different kinds of beans, sometimes baked in a casserole type dish under a pie crust to make a sort of pot pie

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Definition of forefather - a member of the past generations of one's family or people; an ancestor.
Usually thoughts of Pilgrims remind me of Thanksgiving. I guess I really never realized that they landed on Plymouth Rock nearer to Christmas.
Learning about our forefathers is important for all of us. Learning their stories helps us better understand what made them tick, as well as their influence on our world today.
I finally got my packages sent out yesterday, but due to the fact it’s so close to Christmas, they’ll be arriving late. My Christmas cards are not in the mail so they will be late too, but hopefully before New Years! We’ll see…
Today they are saying rain, but that is to transition to snow by tomorrow. Looks like a white Christmas is coming our way.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Date Nut Bread Day which is a tasty bread for the holidays. It's the perfect bread for the season. It contains nuts and sugar, but is not heavy on the sugar. Date nut bread is quite popular. You can make it yourself, or buy some at the bakery.
This date nut bread recipe is irresistible on its own or sandwiched with cream cheese. You can even bake and freeze a loaf up to one month ahead.
Date Nut Bread Recipe
2 well beaten eggs
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. sour cream
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. soda
1 c. nut meats

Let Us Be Grateful
Today we give our thanks most of all, for the ideals of honor and faith we inherit from our forefathers - for the decency of purpose, steadfastness of resolve and strength of will, for the courage and the humility, which they possessed and which we must seek every day to emulate. As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.
John F. Kennedy
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5551. for our forefathers, bold and brave
5552. for the freedom to worship as I choose
5553. for dates and nuts, a great combination
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
We're all pilgrims on the same journey-but some pilgrims have better road maps.

I always think it is nice to get a gift after Christmas. It keeps the Christmas festivities going on a little bit longer. It will be nice to have a white Christmas unless you have to be out in it a lot.
betty
Good morning from Texas! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas! Better late than never is always a good thing! Some of the things I ordered will arrive in January!
So glad you shared this recipe!
Date-nut bread is one of Tom's favorites, but I killed my hand-held mixer a few years ago while trying to make it. (Not enough liquid, but my what a spectacle to see all the smoke and sparks. LOL!)
