ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Welcome December !
The month of December is Aids Awareness Month, Bingo’s Birthday Month, Buckwheat Month, National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, National Tie Month, National Write A Busines Plan Month, Operation Santa Paws, Safe Toys and Gifts Month, Spiritual Literacy Month, Universal Human Rights Month, Worldwide Food Service Safety Month and Write a Friend Month.
Today is World Aids Awareness Day which is noted around the world, by fundraisers and educational programs, and events.
HIV/AIDS is one of the worlds biggest medical crises. It is estimated that approximately 40 million people in the world currently have aids. One million of them, are in the United States. Each year, over 40,000 new cases are reported in the U.S.
It’s important that everyone understand the dangers of HIV/AIDS, and just as important that they understand how it’s contracted. Not just as a way to avoid contracting it, but to reduce the fear that surrounds this horrible condition.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It’s important to be aware of what is going on in our world and thankfully there are many different organizations that let us know about diseases and the ways to prevent them.
We take our health for granted but it’s not guaranteed at all. Prevention and care must be taken.
I was able to go to our Mr. Wonderful’s Christmas concert yesterday evening and what a joy it was. The children certainly put there all into wishing us all a Merry Christmas. Many thanks to DS#5 and his wife for inviting to attend with them to see this festive performance.
Just when I thought all the decorating was done I discovered I’d not set out my Nativity Set, so I set up a table to display it and today I’ll be opening the boxes and placing the figures in the stable. Hopefully that will be the last of the decorating. We’ll see…
December has come in all its glory and before we know it Christmas will be here. Our family celebration will be on the 16th this year. We’ll be celebrating early on, but then it would be wonderful if we kept that Christmas spirit every day of the year… peace and goodwill toward man.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Eat a Red Apple Day!
It’s true what they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apples have high nutritional value and are an extremely healthy snack. The peel alone contains antioxidants that help reduce damaged cells and fight diseases. Apples are also fat, sodium, and cholesterol free.
There are 7,500 varieties of apples grown throughout the world. They can come in a variety of shapes, flavors, and colors including all shades of red, green, and yellow.
The apple can be eaten raw, cooked, baked, or juiced. The recipes for this healthy food are endless but today I’m sharing one of my favorites.
FRESH APPLE CAKE
1 c. vegetable oil
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. raisins
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
3 c. diced raw apples
1 c. chopped walnuts
Dust apples, raisins and nuts with some of the flour, set aside. Blend oil, sugar and slightly beaten eggs. Sift together remaining flour, salt, soda; add to egg mixture. Fold in coated apples, nuts, and raisins with 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir well. Turn into 10 inch greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325 for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
If you have health, you probably will be happy, and if you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it is not all you want.
Elbert Hubbard
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5488. for apples, very healthy
5489. for Mr. Wonderful, who put some cheer into my day
5490. for good health, a blessing indeed
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

It's horrifying that so many people are still being newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. It isn't in the news as much as it once was, so maybe people are getting too complacent about it?
Ah, HA! Great minds DO think alike... we both shared the concept of having the Christmas spirit all year round in our posts today. (But in a way, you exemplify it in every single one of your posts.)
I eat a lot of apples, but rarely any red ones, except for honey crisps, which have tinges of red... and make GREAT pies. Your cake recipe sounds terrific, too.
Have a super weekend, dear lady.
I was in nursing school in the 1980's when we were just beginning to learn about HIV. I only cared for one patient with Aids during my nursing career. (One, that I know of). It was a very scary disease back then. I think many are living with it. More than we probably know. Have a great weekend!
How curious that something so horrifying (think the 1980's) has scarcely made today's newsprint. I'll never forget the first time I went for a dental appointment and the technician was wearing mask and gloves. Almost offended! (Then again, how are they to know one from another?)
Your Mr. Wonderful looks so G.Q. in his dress shirt and tie! Off-hand, I can't think of anything more adorable than little ones' Christmas pageants and recitals.
Always so enjoyable to attend a children's production. Time is marching on to the Christmas celebrations.

Your apple cake looks fabulous Pam! I was a young woman when the Aids crisis started and I can still remember how frightening it was. Having been married (the first time) to a gay man, I remember being terrified that somehow I might have been infected. Thankfully not! We have come a long way since then, in both understanding and treatment, thank goodness! God bless your day! xoxo PS - Love your photo of Mr Wonderful! You have lovely grandchildren.
