ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Flitch Day which celebrates fidelity and harmony in marriage. A flitch is a measurement of bacon, now called a slab. Dating back to the early 1100s, this old English custom says that a couple who had been married and faithful to one another for at least a year and a day could take home a flitch of bacon on July 19th. The couple had to stand mock trial and confess that they still loved one another and had been faithful in their marriage in front of a jury of their peers. After reciting the pledge, they literally could bring home the bacon.
Bringing home the bacon is a great way to celebrate!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I learned the real meaning of love. Love is absolute loyalty. People fade, looks fade, but loyalty never fades. You can depend so much on certain people, you can set your watch by them. And that’s love, even if it doesn’t seem very exciting.
Sylvester Stallone
I do love my bacon and have it often. I also had a wonderful marriage that was blessed with fidelity and harmony. Not to say I didn’t try to have a disagreement now and then but DDH would never join in that conversation. He absolutely refused to argue. He was probably the most laid back man I’ve ever known and I’ve never found anyone that could replace him.
They say that bacon may not be the healthiest thing we could eat, but nothing beats the flavor. There are some bacon products made of turkey that are healthier and still pretty tasty. Bacon provides protein which maintains our energy levels and it makes us feel happy and satisfied which reduces stress in our lives. In my opinion it’s a great way to start the day!
Too much of anything is never good for us they say, but with a little moderation we can still enjoy the good things in life.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Hot Dog Day, which celebrate the most delicious and tantalizing of treats. Did you know that the frankfurter was named for the German city of Frankfurt? The original hot dogs came in a natural casing, which were regularly used making all kinds of sausages.
Here is a simple and easy way to fix hot dogs to enjoy today.
Hot Dogs and Sauerkraut Casserole
1 package of 6 to 8 hotdogs
2 cans sauerkraut, use more if feeding more
Place half the sauerkraut with juice in a baking dish. Add hotdogs on top. Add second half of sauerkraut on top of hotdogs. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes and you see a little browning on tops of sauerkraut.
You can pair this with boiled potations with butter on top, green beans and applesauce as they go so well together. You can also use sausages instead of hotdogs. The flavor of the hotdog cooked in kraut juice is is delicious especially when you love sauerkraut like I do.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
We plan, we toil, we suffer - in the hope of what? A camel load of idol's eyes? The title deeds of Radio City? The empire of Asia? A trip to the moon? No, no, no, no. Simply to wake just in time to smell coffee and bacon and eggs.
J.B. Priestly
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5083. for bacon, who knew it could signify fidelity and harmony?
5084. for moderation, good in all things
5085. for tasty simple casseroles to make
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.

Yummy with all the bacon! Reminds me I have some frozen bacon; need to think of something to use it for. How interesting about the Flitch Day. I hadn't heard of that old custom. How cute it was though!

This is lovely, MA. Two very good friends of mine have an anniversary today, so this was a perfect post for them.
What a sweet testimony about your DDH!
I can almost smell that bacon ... that's an inviting picture, for sure!
'Never heard of the Flitch Day before!
I always learn something new from you Pam and loved learning about bringing home the bacon! What a quaint story! Mmm.. bacon, hotdogs, sauerkraut! Three of my favourite things! Yum! My grandfather used to make his own kraut by the barrel, and my sister makes her own kraut now. I keep saying I am going to but never get around to it! Thanks so much for everything you so generously share with us! Xoxo
PS I also loved hearing about your dear late husband. He sounds a very special man. I am not surprised you could never replace him. I feel the same way about .Todd.
