ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Moon Day which commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969.
The Apollo Space program, begun by President John F. Kennedy, was created to put the first man on the moon. Apollo 11 fulfilled that dream, carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin, Jr. What an amazing and historic event it was!
On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was launched from Cape Kennedy Space Center atop a huge Saturn V rocket. On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module, nicknamed the Eagle, touched down on the surface of the moon at Tranquility Base. Upon landing, Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong reported, The Eagle Has Landed. A few hours later, Neil Armstrong, stepped off of the Eagle's ladder, placed one foot upon the moon's surface and proclaimed: That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We are the people who won the Second World War and saved the world. We went to the moon. We gave the world the cell phone and Bruce Springsteen. There’s no telling what we can accomplish.
Brian Williams
I do remember watching the moon landing on TV and believe me, it was thrilling. I cheered them on along with many many others. Thinking about that one small step for mankind, makes me thankful for the efforts it took for these men to get to the moon.
We too, can take a small step each day for mankind. We all can do small things in great ways with love. A simple smile, a hug and kind words can do a lot to improve our own little corner of the world. There is no telling what we might be able to accomplish.
We’ve returned to living in the tropics here with temps around 90 and some rain too. Steamy days leave me more than a little wilted. Thankfully I have air conditioning to help keep cool both in the house and in the car. It is summer after all and all we can do is grin and bear it. I try to remember that I will miss this when winter comes.
The pictures today are of a full moon taken a few years ago. One of the few times I’d been able to capture a good picture of the moon.
Keep cool everyone ! And don’t forget to drink plenty of water !
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Lollipop Day which allows us to celebrate and enjoy the creation of Lollipops. It’s hard to imagine how sheltered our childhood, and perhaps adulthood, would be, if the lollipop had never been invented! It sure would be a duller, and less tasteful world.
I found a cute idea for making cookies on a stick to share today.
Lollipop Cookies
1 box vanilla cake mix
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
20 to 24 craft sticks/popsicle sticks
1 container creamy frosting, any flavor
Heat oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl, beat cake mix, oil and eggs with mix on low speed till blended.
Onto ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart. Insert wooden stick in edge of dough till tip is in center of each.
Bake 9 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool a minute before removing from cookie sheet. Then cool completely, about 30 minutes. Frost and decorate as desired. Store loosely covered.
Makes approximately 22 servings
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle.
Walt Whitman
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5086. for brave explorers that even went to the moon and back
5087. for the kindness of others that makes the world a better place
5088. for lollipops, always a tasty treat
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
Les Brown
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Great pictures of the moon. I too remember watching the moon landing and the walk on the moon. Exciting times back then.

I remember watching, totally in awe!
Sometimes it's mind-boggling to list all the momentous events I've witnessed in my life. But you're right about daily small steps. None of these things just 'happened' without millions of folks small steps.
I think the day of the walk on the moon was one of my life's defined ng moments also. I will always remember watching it on the television and being utterly amazed! Love your advice for the day and all that you share! Xoxo PS I could not handle hot and humid temps that you get!
