Life is a Special Occasion!

April 19th is Hanging Out Day. The future of the environment is in our hands and it´s the little actions that can make big differences. One simple way to save energy is to hang out your laundry instead of machine drying it. This idea has been diffused on Hanging Out Day since 1995, when the day was established to highlight the amount of energy that is wasted using electric clothes dryers. Electric clothes dryers can account for six to ten percent of energy consumption in a household. So hanging out your laundry to dry in the sun can really save a considerable amount of energy.
Hanging Out Day is celebrated by people hanging their laundry outside their homes in the open air, using the natural energy of the sun and wind to dry their clothes. You can join the celebrations and make your garden more colourful by hanging out your laundry too.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The Clothesline Said So Much
A clothesline was a news forecast
To neighbors passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.
For then you'd see the fancy sheets
And towels on the line;
You'd see the company table clothes
With intricate design.
The line announced a baby's birth
To folks who lived inside
As brand new infant clothes were hung
So carefully with pride.
The ages of the children could
So readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed
You'd know how much they'd grown.
It also told when illness struck,
As extra sheets were hung;
Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too,
Haphazardly were strung.
It said, Gone on vacation now
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, We're back! when full lines sagged
With not an inch to spare.
New folks in town were scorned upon
If wash was dingy gray,
As neighbors raised their brows,
And looked disgustedly away.
But clotheslines now are of the past
For dryers make work less.
Now what goes on inside a home
Is anybody's guess.
I really miss that way of life.
It was a friendly sign
When neighbors knew each other best
By what hung on the line!

Today is my day to rest and relax so I’ll save the clothes washing until tomorrow. Monday is wash day anyway. I do a lot of hanging in, but I don’t have a way to hang clothes outside here at my house. I’ve found that drip drying is the way to go when it comes to many things I wear. It keeps them from shrinking and in some cases extends the life of the clothes.
Today is also my sisters’ birthday. I celebrated with them last week but still would like to wish them a very happy day !
Hope you all have restful and relaxing Sunday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
I’m thankful for piles of laundry. It means my loved ones are nearby
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
2685. for my sisters, it’s their birthday today
2686.for 3rd Sunday dinners, I’m fixing ribs today
2687. for lined dried sheets, nothing smells fresher
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
We must all hang together or most assuredly we shall hang separately.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Happy birthday to your sisters, Ma! I too agree if you hang up clothes and not put them in the dryer, they do tend to last longer and not shrink. I have started to hang up the tops I wear; I still dry hubby's clothes he wears for work to get the wrinkles out of them:) I do remember the clothesline from growing up and having things hanging outside blowing in the wind as they dry.
I hope your Sunday is a relaxful one!
betty
MA, I have also stopped "working" on Sundays. It used to be a day of rest, and should still be. I have had a peaceful day after feeding the chickens and taking pictures this morning, reading and dozing. I'll go out to feed the chickens this evening and collect eggs, and we are having a simple dinner of open-faced beef sandwiches and veggies.
I wish I could hang clothes out!
This brought back lots of fond memories!
Once our electric bills grew so high I started looking for ways in which to save.
Unfortunately, the HOA monitor would have a stroke if we tried to erect a clothesline - so I've occasionally turned to one of those wooden accordion racks and stick it in the garage overnight.
I still have a pull out line that roles back in when the clothes finish drying. I use it some in the summer months to dry sheets and comforters'. I like the smell of line dried sheets. I loved the poem as always. Take care. Jean
