Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Cherish An Antique Day. A day is set aside in April of every year on which to appreciate unique objects that date back to a time when quality and craftsmanship were most valued by a discerning clients. It is a day on which everyone is encouraged to revisit an era of artistic talent that, for them, holds a special and timeless appeal.
Cherish An Antique Day can be celebrated by a visit to an art museum, or simply by retrieving a valued heirloom from its place of safety and exhibiting it for the day. The idea is to salute past artistry and to create a greater awareness of the type of aesthetic appeal that withstands the test of time. It is hoped that exposure to the past masters will encourage a commitment to quality rather than quantity in today’s production line type of manufacturing. Cherishing an antique can make the past far more present.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Tenderly we treasure the past,
With memories that will always last
This is one of my favorite holidays, as I now qualify as an Antique and I love the thoughts of being cherished. I think that being cherished is something we all desire. I know I cherish my loved ones and memories of days gone by. I keep many people and things close to my heart.
I do have a few cherished items that were made by loving hands and not machines. I have a special place in my heart for old things. Their history and the stories they tell about the people who owned them before is just fascinating! One of the quilts I have was made by my maternal grandmother. It contains material in it that was once a part of one of my childhood dresses. She saved scraps from patterns she’d cut out or gently used clothing and used them to make quilt pieces.
There are many items that stir up memories or set us back in time such as butter churns, antique sewing machines, and spinning wheels. They take us back to times when life was so much simpler and when people really appreciated the things they made. Everything had a purpose and even scraps of material were used to make something new.
Today is to be another wet one for us. This week has been filled with April Showers for sure ! Todays pictures are from last year showing our Spring flowers.
Hope you all have a rainbow of smiles and rainfalls of laughter. Happy Thursday !

You are a much loved "antique" Ma and definitely cherished! I bet that quilt you have from your grandmother's is a very nice one! My sister in law likes antiques and knows a lot about some of them she has; it is interesting to think about the past as we look at antique objects and wonder how life was back then.

It's funny, I've stopped haunting antique stores... I feel like I don't have enough time left to enjoy before I designate an heir for the piece!
