On April 11, 1938 the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America was founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, marking the official celebration of Barbershop Quartet Day. The image of four wearing straw hats singing together with complex harmonies could be considered a cultural cornerstone of the 1940s.
Barbershop quartets are a popular musical group. Musical selections are usually happy and light hearted, and allow full utilization of the voice ranges and skills of these great singers.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
In music there is harmony...In harmony there is peace...
Today I’ll be getting together with some of my friends. I call them my dulcimer buddies because when we usually get together we play our dulcimers. Some of the tunes we play are oldies that could have been sung by barbershop quartets. Today though we’re not playing music, we’re going to play some games like Yahtzee or Scrabble and have lunch together. Making time to visit with friends is one way I keep peace and harmony in my life. Keeping in touch with old friends is worth the effort.
I’m thinking of making these Turkey and Cheese Mini Wraps today to share for our lunch.
1 package cream cheese, 8oz., softened
1 package dry ranch salad dressing mix
1 tablespoon milk
4 10 inch flour tortillas
32 spinach leaves, stems removed
8 slices turkey breast
8 slices American cheese
Salad greens, if desired
Cherry tomatoes
Combine cream cheese, salad dressing mix and milk in bowl; mix well.
Divide cream cheese mixture among tortillas; spread to edge. Layer each tortilla with spinach, 2 slices turkey and 2 slices cheese, placing 1/2 inch from edge.
Roll tortillas up tightly, keeping meat and cheese away from edge. Wrap each in plastic food wrap; refrigerate at least 4 hours.
Trim ends of each tortilla; slice each into 12 1/2 inch pieces.
Place salad greens onto tray, if desired. Arrange wrap pieces over greens. Garnish with cherry tomatoes, if desired.
I think that when we keep peace and harmony in our lives we focus on the positive and not the negative. We turn negative situations into positive ones. Everything happens for a purpose and a reason. Instead of complaining, and feeling wounded after a negative situation, we stop and think about how we can change it into a positive one. We look on the bright side of life.
We experience balance and harmony when we get in touch with who we are and what matters most and then make those things a priority in our lives. For me faith, family and friends are what truly matters.
I hope that you have a super Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest.
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
2661. for music, harmonious and restful

And soon the whole world will be singing.

I like what you are thinking of taking to your gathering, Ma. I made something similar for a church event before and they were delicious and well received. How fun to get together to play games like this too!
