Life is a Special Occasion!

June 12th is Red Rose Day, a time to enjoy and appreciate America's favorite flower...the red rose. A red rose signifies love. A June setting for Red Rose Day is very appropriate, as this is by far the most popular month for weddings. And, they are in bloom in the gardens across America this month.
In addition to being the most popular cut flower, roses are also the most popular flower in flower beds and around foundation of houses, garages and sheds. They are easy to grow, producing a bounty of sweet scented flowers from June up to the first frost.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying :
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer ;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may go marry :
For having lost but once your prime
You may for ever tarry.
Robert Herrick
I’ve shown you lots of pictures of my rose bush before and today I’m showing some more. Although my rose bush almost died off with the bitter cold winter we had, it is once more growing and now has buds on it. When they begin to bloom I’ll have more pictures to share. The ones today were taken last year. The bush right now isn’t even half the size it was, but the good news is that it is still growing.
We all need to take more time to smell the roses and if you haven’t slowed down yet, remember a little time out will always refresh you even if its only a minute or two.
The reality is that life on earth is a brief gift, and our time and energy is way too precious to be used up on crossing off to do lists. We need to slow down a little, plan less in a day, prioritize things that bring us joy, and de-prioritize things that are not imperative. Even if we must accomplish many things each day, we can also change the quality with which we do things. All it takes one moment here and there, allowing you to savor and enjoy the little moments in your life. While a simple idea, the effect can be profound on our wellbeing.
We had more rain off and on yesterday but we also had some patches of sun too. Today looks like it will be more of the same. Just before I went in last evening I got a glimpse of the beautiful Strawberry Moon, which will be full tomorrow, June 13th. The Strawberry Moon was so named because the Algonquin tribes knew this Moon as a time to gather ripening strawberries. It is also known as the Rose Moon and the Hot Moon.
I hope you all have a great day! Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses
Tom Wilson
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for over a year and have now reached over 1700 gifts. On my way to 2000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1754. for my rose bush that is still alive and growing
1755. for moments that refresh and renew
1756. for fresh strawberries on the fruit stands right now
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon--instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.
Dale Carnegie
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

These were pretty flowers, Ma, and I look forward to seeing the pictures down the road of your rose bush producing roses this summer. So true to slow down and enjoy life, since it seems to go by so fast!

How appropriate that it was rose day on my birthday... :)
I love that, the Strawberry Moon! How apt! I am so glad your rose bush made it despite your cold winter. The blooms are beautiful. It can only get better! xxoo
