Ohio History
On September 3, 1915, the US Navy dirigible, the Shenandoah, encountered a severe storm while crossing over Noble County. The ship broke in two killing the commander and thirteen crew members. 29 survived.
Noble county is located in the heart of the beautiful rolling hills of Appalachian Ohio and is one county in Ohio I've yet to visit. Noble County, founded in 1851, is Ohio's youngest county. Tales of nostalgia, amusement and tragedy accompany its historical sites. One of the county's historical places is North America's first oil well.
I'm hoping to visit each county in Ohio and find out more about our Ohio history. Ohio really has a lot to see.
Learn all you can from the mistakes of others. You won't have time to make them all yourself.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The past is a good place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Thankfully I've been enjoying a lot of history lately and over the labor day weekend we visited the Great Trail Festival in Malvern, Ohio, which is in Carroll County. Today's pictures show a little more of the living history they provided. The Great Trail tells about life among the French Traders and the Indians that inhabited the land at the time.
This is our little Lucky Guy in a coon skin cap. There were many dressed in the costumes of the day there on a very hot and humid weekend. I give them a lot of credit for providing a look at what it must have been to live in that period of time.
Here in Ohio today, we remain a bit on the sticky side with high humidity, but the weather man says we're cooling down and will be in the 70's this week.
I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
You don’t even miss a beat when gratitude to God is the beat of your heart.
Anne Voskamp
I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts. I’ll be sharing them and giving thanks to God for these gifts each day.
914. for living history
915. for a look back in time
916. for cooler days
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway.

I think that is a good idea, Ma, to try to visit all the counties in Ohio. Goodness me, we have so many here I think it would take years to do so, but a worthy task for you to try to accomplish! What a fun weekend it sounded like at the Great Trail; always good to see how history was from that time period! We too have sticky humid weather; I hope it blows away soon; wanting our cool ocean breezes back!
betty
I'm all for cooler days... I see a forecast of 106 this coming weekend... phew..... Happy Tuesday! :)
You know I love history... loved this post.
I love history too Pam, and love it when you share these tidbits with us. I love that pic of your little prince in his coonskin cap! How adorable is that! Have a fab Wednesday! xxoo
