OHIO HISTORY
It was on this day in 1861 that Harrison County native Thomas Ward Custer, the only soldier to receive two medals of Honor during the Civil War, enlisted with the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was only 16. His older brother was Brigadier General George Armstrong Custer. The Custer brothers died at the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. Popularly known in American History as Custer's Last Stand.
Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope... and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.
Robert F. Kennedy
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Our most basic instinct is not for survival but for family. Most of us would give our own life for the survival of a family member, yet we lead our daily life too often as if we take our family for granted.
Paul Pearshall
Like most of us, I'm proud of the State I live in and since I do love history, I'll be sharing a little Ohio history with you in my trivia for each day for a while now. I'm no fan of war, but am glad we've had some great men fight for our country.
It's so very hard to believe that Labor Day is here and even though Fall isn't official yet, it feels like it is here for me. Thankfully we'll still have many nice days ahead before bad weather sets in. The pictures today are of some of my family as we enjoyed the weekend together. I try to post as many pictures as possible for those in my family that can't join us much at all for holidays. I like to think that it helps us stay connected.
I hope you all are enjoying a great holiday weekend and are ready to start the new week. Back to normal days tomorrow but then, I do love normal days!
Here's wishing you all a labor free Labor Day!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
What greater blessing to give thanks for at a family gathering than the family and the gathering.
Robert Brault
I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts. I’ll be sharing them and giving thanks to God for these gifts each day.
911. for brave men
912. for the many freedoms we have
913. for history that helps understand what a great country we live in
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
Other things may change us, but we start and end with the family.
Anthony Brandt
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
