Today is National Freedom Day which celebrates the signing of the 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution by President Abraham Lincoln in 1865. The 13th Amendment was proposed to abolish slavery. It was ratified , in December, 1865. roughly 7 months after the end of the Civil War.
National Freedom Day was established on June 30th, 1948. It was made official by President Harry Truman, however the date was advocated by political activist Richard R. Wright who was born into slavery in Georgia and resided in Philadelphia.
Celebrate today and acknowledge the important steps made toward freedom and equality as a nation.

I’m so proud to live in a country where citizen’s rights are protected. Our freedoms excel a lot of other countries and we need to preserve that.
It’s going to be a beautiful here in Texas, Really the whole weekend is. We’re sunny and in the upper 70’s and lower 80’s. Almost feels like summer, but I know summers are hotter. I love the weather here,
My daughter and I have an appointment for a haircut today, I think I’m going to go shorter for the warmer days ahead. It’ll be a beautiful day to get out and about.
