Hallmark!
Today is World Osteoporosis Day which is observed annually and launches a year long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
Organized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation this holiday involves campaigns by osteoporosis societies from around the world with activities in over 89 countries. It was launched by the United Kingdom’s National Osteoporosis Society and supported by the European Commission.
Osteroposis is a progressive bone disease that is charatarised by a drecrease in bone mass and density that leads to in increased risk of fracture. In osteoporosis the bone mineral density is reduced, bone microarchitecture deteriorates and the amount of proteins in the bone are altered.
To celebrate today you could have your bone density measured by a doctor, or you could encourage someone else who is having problems. We need to keep our bones strong and reduce the risk of fracture.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A broken bone can heal, but the wound a word opens can fester forever.

As far as I know I have no problems with bone density. Even though I experienced several falls this year, I haven’t had any bones break. The only time I broke a bone it was when I was younger and I fell on my foot breaking one of the bones there. I was standing on a chair, hanging curtains and my foot slipped and I fell hard. It was in a cast for a couple of months and for a time I couldn’t walk on it and was in a wheel chair for a while. It broke, but it healed and now I’m unable to wear heels of any kind. It feels like I have a wooden plank in my foot if I try to walk in high heels. I used to wear them all the time, so I had several pairs of high heals in my wardrobe that I had to give away. I now use a step ladder for things I cannot reach. I no longer step up on a chair.
I have always lived by the premise of drinking milk makes strong bones and still try to have some everyday. It isn’t just for kids, adults need some calcium too.
Fridays are another day for me to cook and on the menu today is:
Zucchini Pasta
Makes 6 servings
8 oz. uncooked linguine
4 cups coarsely shredded zucchini
4 tsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/4 cup plain yougurt, or sour cream
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp. pepper.
Cook linguine according to package directions, drain linguine. Transfer to a large bowl. Add yougurt, cheese and pepper; add to zucchini mixture and toss to coat.
You could use other types of pasta in this dish if you prefer. You could even use zoodles, if you prefer instead of the shredded zucchini.
This makes for a healthy and delicious pasta dish. One serving equals 3/4 cup of the pasta.
The rain is returning today and then it will get cooler again. Rainy days are great days for me to get housework done. I need to do more sorting. I have way too many clothes. Most are old but they still have life left in them and they are comfortable.
I have no pictures of bones to share today, but thanks to DS#6 and family I have some not so scary Halloween pictures
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

Is that your granddaughter - she is so cute in her costume.
World Osteoporosis Day - hmm - don't have it yet - and I hope I don't get it - good for you too!
I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis about 15 years ago when I visited a new chiropractor. No sooner had he looked at my x-rays than strongly suggested I don't have work done and to follow-up with my doctor. So now I'm on meds and, aside from 2-3 days a month, it doesn't affect me.
I'm thankful for that doctor, but bummed not to be able to enjoy regular chiropractic care.
Great pictures! Very good and timely post. Osteoporosis, the fear of most of us folks growing older. Glad you mentioned milk. I love it and I do drink it. I had just not thought of the advantages. thanks for the reminder.
Take care, be safe.
Sherry & jack enjoying the cooler temps here.
