Hallmark!
Today is National Pasta Day which honors the over 350 varieties of dried pasta in Italy. The highest quality of dried pasta is made with pure durum semolina flour and water.
The typical Italian person eats over 60 pounds of pasta per person per year, while the average American eats only 20 pounds of pasta per year.
Linguine, fettuccine, spaghetti, tortelli, and ziti are typically thought of as an Italian dish but there is evidence that people living in Asia in 2000 BC made noodles with millet.
To celebrate today, enjoy a delightful dish of your favorite type of pasta topped with a scrumptious sauce.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Life is a combination of magic and pasta.
Frederico Fellini
I try to eat very little pasta these days but still have it now and then. Pasta is an enemy to blood sugar and I’m trying to eat healthier.
When my family was home spaghetti was always a favorite dish of theirs. I’d make it with meatball sauce and they loved it. We would also sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over it.
I used to have it often but now I rarely do. It’s not that I don’t like it, its because of the carbs in the spaghetti don’t agree with me.
On the menu for this weekend I don’t have pasta but I’m making:
Classic Diner Meat Loaf
Makes 8 servings
2/3 cup milk
2 eggs
2 cups soft whole wheat bread crumbs
1 green onions, sliced thinly
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dried oregano, crushed
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
1/4 cup ketchup
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking dish with foil and set aside. In a large bowl combine milk and egg. Stir in bread crumbs, green onion, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and pepper.
Add ground beef; mix well. Shape meat mixture into a rectangle in prepared baking dish.
Bake for 50 minutes Spoon off fat. Meanwhile in a small bowl, combine ketchup, vinegar and garlic. Spread over the top of meat loaf. Bake about 10 minutes more until meat is done, 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Cut into slices.
I usually make my meat loaf with oatmeal so I substituted that for the bread crumbs in my recipe. It is good and makes a delicious meatloaf. You could also used regular chopped onions instead of the green onions, if you prefer, but I used the green onions since I had them on hand.
It’s a good day to turn the oven on here, we’re in the 50’s not 60’s today.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturd
ay!

There are many different varieties of pasta and most of them are delicious, but I'm not a fan of the carbs in pasts sp I eat it in moderation.
Ahhh Pasta, some of my favorite foods. Sherry makes an award winning Lasagna and very good Spaghetti. Funny that, tomato supported pasta was the one thing my mama did not fix growing up. However I loved Spaghetti and meat balls in a can. Chef Boyardee was opened when mama and daddy were going to be away for the day. My sister Shirley was the cook and would open a can for us.
Enjoyed the read and history. Mama did make a baked Mac and cheese thought that I loved.
Thanks for inviting us in for a visit.

Happy pasta day - boy I will tell you my daughter loves pasta - I have eaten so much with her I don't really enjoy it all that much! lol
My Tom's been talking about making a big pot of spaghetti! He's the only one in the family -- my son can't even hardly look at it b/c that's what they served every day in the Army (lol).
Now that the weather's cooling a bit I'm looking forward to making more foods in the oven like meatloaf. We prefer a recipe I found (Dallas Cowboys Wives Cookbook) with cheese v. tomato sauce.
I think everyone loves pasta in one form or another! Oh, and meatloaf …a favorite comfort meal and who doesn’t love it leftover!? Enjoy your day and thanks for the visit. xo, V.
