Hallmark!
Today is Chocolate Milk Day which celebrates a nice tall glass of frothy chocolate milk. Until the 1820’s, drinking chocolate was fairly uncommon and no one knew how to produce a smooth chocolate taste in liquid form. In 1828 the Van Houten company in Amsterdam invented the cocoa processing method. This produced a light fluffy chocolate powder that could be easily dissolved in milk or water. Today, chocolate milk is a popular beverage for people of all ages.
Chocolate milk has surprising restorative properties. In 2006, the dairy industry conducted a study that discovered that chocolate milk helps athletes with muscle recovery, it provides nine essential nutrients, making it both delicious and nutricious.
To celebrate today, pour yourself a nice tall glass of chocolate milk. Enjoy!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Chocolate milk has more Potassium than a banana

I never realized that chocolate milk is so nutritious. I do like milk, but mostly I drink white milk. I have grandchildren who prefer chocolate instead. I keep Hershey’s chocolate syrup on hand to make chocolate milk with. Maybe I should drink more chocolate milk as my muscles are practically nonexistent these days. I could use a restorative for sure.
I do drink hot chocolate a lot in the winter and love it dearly. More than anything I’ve considered chocolate a mood restorer, not a muscle restorer.
But truly, anything is good with chocolate in it, that’s my opinion!
Today is my day to cook again, all my leftovers are gone. On the menu today is:
One Dish Turkey Dinner
Makes 4 servings
1 lb. ground turkey
1 onion chopped
1 shallot finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup tomato paste
1 medium sweet potato peeled and cubed
1 cup chicken broth
2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp pepper
3 cups chopped spinach
Dash crushed red pepper flakes
2 medium rip avocados peeled and sliced
Minced fresh mint optional
In a large skillet cook turkey, onion, shallot, and garlic over medium heat until turkey is no longer pink and vegetables are tender, breaking up turkey into crumbles; drain. Add tomato paste and cook and stir 1 minute longer.
Add sweet potatoes, broth, paprika and pepper. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer covered, until sweet potato is tender. Add spinach and red pepper flakes; cook and stir until spinach is wilted. Serve with avocado and if desired, mint.
The original recipe called for kale, but I’ll use spinach instead. You could also substitute butternut squash for the sweet potatoes if you wanted to.
