Hallmark!
Today is Sunscreen Day which reminds us to make sure and apply and reapply your sunscreen whenever you go outside.
Even in ancient times, humans wanted products to protect their skin. Ancient Egyptians preferred the look of light skin to dark skin, so they invented a sun lotion to maintain lighter complexions . They used a combination of rice bran, jasmine, and lupine in their sun lotions - and some of these ingredients are still used in sunscreens today.
Many scientists are credited with discovering modern sunscreen. In 1936, chemist Eugene Schueller invented a preventative sunburn cream and went on to start L’Oreal.
Around the same time, Swiss chemist Franz Greiter was inspired to develop a sun lotion after he was sun burned climbing up Mount Pis Buin. His produce came to market under the name Pis Buin in 1946 and us still sold today.. In 1944, a Florida pharmacist Benjamin Green patented Red Vet Pet sunscreen, which became Copperton suntan cream and was popular through out the 1850’s and still is today!
To celebrate today, enjoy the nice weather and wear your sunscreen.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I liberally apply sunscreen and wear hats.
Christie Brinkley
As I will probably be inside most of the day, so I’ll be putting my suntan lotion on hold for tomorrow. I like coppertone and have used it for years. Northing reminds me of summer more than the smell of Coppertone. It’s important that we protect our skin from the sun so we don’t get skin cancer. I don’t burn easy, and even if it’s to be a partly cloudy day, I’ll still be putting sunscreen on.
I’m going to my daughters house for our Xfactors birthday party tomorrow and it will be outside. They have a real nice deck to sit out on and since there will be a lot of people there, it’s so nice to have the weather cooperating. It’ll be in the mid 70’s and I’m one that thinks 70’s is the perfect temperature. It’s not too cool or too hot.
I’d usually be cooking up something to eat for the weekend, but since I’m going to a party tomorrow, there will be plenty of food there, so I’m planning to save the leftover chicken in the freezer to use in salads later on.
On the menu for today is:
Margarita Chicken
Makes 4 servings
1 cup margarita mix
3 Tbsp. lime juice
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 bonesless skinless chicken breasts halves
1/4 tsp pepper
In a small bowl, combine margarita mix, lime juice and garlic. Pour 1 cup marinade into a shallow dish. Add chicken; turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate about 4 hours. Cover and refrigerate remaining marinade.
Drain chicken, discarding the marinate. Sprinkle chicken with pepper. Place chicken on an oiled grill rack. Grill, covered, over medium heat and broil four inches from the heat until a thermometer reads 165 degrees, about 7 minutes on each side, basting frequently with reserved marinade.
If you are not grilling, using the oven instead is the perfect way to cook this recipe too, Just makes sure the chicken reaches 165 degrees either way. I plan to use my air fryer oven.
Serve with corn on the cob, or cilantro lime rice for side dishes.
The only thing I have to take to the party tomorrow is a watermelon. She is having pasta salad, and walking Tacos, fried chicken, all of which which her son requested.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY BLESSINGS

1I love the warmth of the sunshine, but I always keep my sunscreen on !
Interesting history!
Not sure why I never became disciplined enough to use sunscreen regularly -- and the damage shows. You're right; that aroma of Coppertone is unmistakable.
Have fun at the party tomorrow!
I am a white skin Irish girl, burns and hates it. Plus, having chronic migraines, the sun drives a cleaver into my brain. Staying inside for the summer.
I have had a skin cancer years ago and I wear sun screen all the time. I never tan anyway only burn.
